2005-05-28 11:29:00 | I been thinking of joining the army as reserves or TF aswell. But I have scoliosis so I think I'll have to miss out . That scheme sounds good. BTW, does any one here play force9? I been trying to win some army gear and the trip for a while now. | JimboJones (1680) | |

2005-05-28 17:55:00 | You come accross as the me generation as in whats in it for me,what can I get out of it. Bad attitude and not desirable for the NZDF. You want transport get a job save money buy a car or get mummy/daddy to buy you a car or drive you like they do now ah. Only 30 days out of 365 days gee thats though: 365-30=335 days left to you. Of course you can do more then 30 days its advertised to get bludgers in the door. You want to be an officer you have to be fitter then the soldiers because you have to lead be example if your not they **** on you behind your back. If you get your troops killed in a exercise for personal glory they are not going to do it in real life as in they did in that exercise. We have too many officers in the NZDF and we dont need anymore like that. I am in the regular force and have seen your kind come and go at the expense of the taxpayer and am sick and tied of it. If you join it should not be for your reasons it should be to serve the country and give back a little to it and if necessary kill people for it and yourself be killed for it if you cant handle that then dont bother. Stick to playing playstation and xbox we dont want kids in the Army. :angry

2005-05-28 22:52:00 | What the hell?? Once again, i'll say again, i have always planned to join the TF, and know, not just for a job, i mean over the past 3 xmas breaks i've been working and getting paid $14 an hr, my parents were suprised when i said i wanted to join the TF but i'd have to train over the xmas break, and i beleive the pay would be lower than that - but i'm not worried at all, i'm not in it for the $$, i want the experience, the discipline, meet new people... As for the transport question, i was just curious, i will have my own car at uni, but i know they work in with the Uni's and i thought they may provide it since there would be alot of TF people in the one place... i'm not worried about it, just thought i'd ask if someone knew... As for the 30 days, i was asking becuase over the semester breaks, i wouldn't mind working extra, rather than sitting around at home (if i joined, i wouldn't get any other jobs) And for the 'what happens if you have something on' whats wrong with asking that? It must come up, what if your parents die on a thursday and you're expected to go and lead a group of guys that weekend, not going to work well... i know thats a bit over the top, ok, i'll aks a different question: - do you knwo the days you work in advance (by a few months) or could you get home thursday and see you have a message saying you've got to go friday savo?? For the fittness, i consider myself pretty darn fit as it is, and if i were to join i would improve this fittness, i'm in the second highest fittness level for the amry test (just off to the 'top 100') i play 5 sports, and hold NZ records for indoor rowing... Why the hell would i want to get people killed? Do you think in an excercise i'd do something like that, just for fun?? ***! i know there are people that would do this sort of thing, but jeeze, i'd be f**king pissed off if something like that happened, i wouldn't be happy with it. And i only planned to go in as an officer when i seen this scheme, and they're asking for 15 per year, surely they'd scrap it if they were getting far to many?? i don't no, i'll take your word for that tho since you're in the army. And if i don't get accpeted, i wpn't be going into the TF as an officer anyway. And if successful, you do have to do a return to service for 6 years anway, i thought i'd point that out. And if you think i've been wanting to join the TF since 5th form to get some $$, huh, i know people in the RF, and i know they're not living the high life (they're all happy with what they're getting tho) and like i said b4, instead of doing the few weeks training over xmas, i could easily be saving towards uni at $14 an hour... cheers, sorry if i came across pretty strong, but i just want to clear that pt up. PS. i don't own or play a ps2 or xbox!

2005-05-28 23:05:00 | oh, and one last thing i'll add. put yourself in my situation, if you were planning to join the TF and were also studying at uni, and you came across this scheme, wouldn't you apply for it? Remeber, its not like i came across this scheme and then decided i should apply fot it and join the TF. You can't criticise the user of it, cricticise the supplier of it if you don't think its valuable

2005-05-28 23:28:00 | Some people make assuptions on other peoples motives and abilties Fergie. If this is what you want go for it. However remember also be prepared for a comitment.

2005-05-29 02:26:00 | Something you really need to consider Fergie is that this is not a job, it is a commitment, it is an experience and it is about giving something back to NZ. But, as was pointed out earlier, you have to take the good with the bad - there is no opting out of a conflict even if it is at a highly inconvenient time. Don't view it as a job because it is definitely not a job and whilst you will be doing 'work' you are not going to work, per se. It's not the sort of 'work' where you stop for morning tea and a game of cards, nor does the 'job' stop at 5 o'clock. You may want to question your motivation for doing this, and if the Uni fees are paid for, then view that as a bonus - but it shouldn't be a deciding factor. The fact you are considering this is admirable given it never enters the mind of Average Joe - I recommend you go and speak to someone at your local recruiting office. As I said in my earlier post, enrol as a 'grunt' to get the experience and discipline. Just my thoughts, Andrew
