| 655650 | 2008-04-03 00:16:00 | Hi, I have a computer that is the family's, at the moment I am using that for my photography, ok granted, its not a speed demon but that's what I have now, other than my laptop is a slow Pentium 3 600Mhz, 320MB. Bouht one yr used from 2002 so its got great service, before warranty finished, I got a new CDROM cos the flap was loose, the HDD crashed, new one, the RAM faulty so a new one :D The big computer .. AMD Sempron 2500+ 1600FSB Gibabyte motherboard Micro-ATX (onboard video takes about 50MB RAM) 2 slots for DDR400 RAM - at the moment has 1x Kingston (one sided) 512MB. So .. should I get another stick of 512MB or 1024MB? 1024MB is the max per slot .. hence 2048MB total. Should I get another Kingston or any brand? Its running 32bit XP - SP2. Thanks. |

| 655651 | 2008-04-03 00:45:00 | Kingston is a good brand - but not being high performance RAM, I'd just get any old 1024 MB DDR 400. (whatevers cheap.) Kingston, Apacer, Legend, PQI and A-Data are all decent cheap brands. |

| 655654 | 2008-04-03 06:03:00 | The motherboard is Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M it does not say about dual channel. All it say is that I should install it as 2x single sided RAM to get DDR400 because double sided RAM will become DDR333. The Kingston is single sided RAM. 512MB. PC3200 200Mhz - by CPUZ. |

All it say is that I should install it as 2x single sided RAM to get DDR400 M'board is definitely not dual channel capable (looked it up), so get another single sided 512mb (or 1gb if you want) DDR400 (because DDR333 is pretty hard to find now), matching size or brand wont matter. Actually, probably doesnt matter if its double sided either, for the reason stated below. My older machine is the same CPU, only runs at 333Mhz (2x166Mhz=333Mhz front side bus (FSB) speed). Or put another way, 166Mhz x 10.5 (clock multiplier) = 1750Mhz CPU frequency. |

Hey if its a dual or quad core, a standard motherboard with separate video card etc.. a more later chipset .. Intel 775 or AM2 (AMD). For the RAM, if I am not going to overclock is there a difference? Going to be used for normal stuff the odd game, Photoshop and Lightroom. What is the difference between cheaper ones and $$$ ones? Thanks. |

| 655659 | 2008-04-03 09:36:00 | DDR2 will not fit in the slots on that board. If you are only running Windows XP another Kingston 512 is all that is needed. |
