655634 2008-04-02 22:19:00 When reinstalling Vista how do i keep all the updates patches and SP1 that have already been aplied to the current version? hazza87 (12499)
655635 2008-04-02 22:24:00 If youre doing a clean install you dont, you'll have to get them again

It'll be better if u make a partition before you format, and download whatever and copy them to a folder after.

That'll save you getting them all over again when and if you format

655636 2008-04-02 22:27:00 I have seperate partitions for documents videos games etc so that will all be fine, but is there a place where all the updates are downloaded to and saved so i can copy them onto another partition so i can reinstall them after without redownloading them and wasting a large portion of my data cap.( No doubt about 500mb worth of downloads and patches for a clean vista install including SP1) hazza87 (12499)
655637 2008-04-02 22:38:00 This program Here (wud.jcarle.com) downloads from MS, you load the Program, on the left, select the Update list for the OS you have, run it and then download the Updates to your PC as required.

I tried it on Xp and it worked great, brought many through, then you can slipstream the updates if required or install 1 at a time, or even make a batch file to do it.

With Vista, it brought through a Lot, but I don't think it got every thing, but it did save some time.

655638 2008-04-02 22:38:00 Dont know about Vista, but in XP, I think the downloaded files end up here

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution

They maybe extracted in 5-6 folders, however.

So, you may have to figure out whats what, before you copy them

655639 2008-04-02 23:51:00 Dont think you can save and reinstall updates etc, dunno, havent tried. :2cents:
Vista Sp1 will have all the updates and patches up until it was issued, you can download and save that separately so you should burn it to a CD to avoid having to download it again ;), shouldnt be many updates since then. (Maybe NZ PC World will have it on their next mag DVD :clap )
Apparently SP1 cant be slipstreamed into Vista.:crying

You can now, with the latest version of Vlite, according to the author

655641 2008-04-03 08:32:00 You can now, with the latest version of Vlite, according to the author:groan: I downloaded the latest vlite - and have tried to do this slipstream.

Separate Vista DVD's and separate SP1's -both have worked perfectly if installed as they are meant to be installed.

Progress so far - Vista DVD, all contents copied to folder on Drive, SP1 Copied to folder on drive - it goes through all the motions, locates the OS and Service packs fine - starts, goes through the first stage of extracting the SP1 - works through to 2nd stage of integrating the Service pack,(about 5 -10 minutes taken so far) Third stage comes up a message saying could take a while, 60 -90 minutes - ( then RAASSSSPPPP :groan: )

There is still the ISO image to burn or DVD to make.

Doing this on two separate PC's ones doing Vista Ultimate, the other Premium - So far the 60-90 minutes is at 4 - 3/4 hours - so its not looking good (both PC's) started approx 5 minutes apart.
Hard Drive is doing something, and the CPU usage on the sidebars is up and down from 20-95%

So far in that time I could have manually installed them multi times.:groan: :groan:

Guys - just downloaded this, but when I run it there's no update list. Figured this might be because I'm behind a proxy server, but even when I entered the credentials in, and refreshed it, I got this error (www.imagef1.net.nz)???
