They were used as simple vibration meters by Vincent enthusiasts who could stand them up on the crankcase whilst revving the engine. They didnt fall over, just turned around on the spot.
With no other motobike could that be done, ( no, not even the BMW),it always settled arguments about how smooth an engine was.

Mmmmm...clooty dumpling... Mmmm.... there are some things I really miss about my granny, and that is definitely one of them.
