2008-04-06 05:21:00 decided id make the full jump to linux and got kubuntu. few nagging issues. 1) should i be concerned that the adept updater is stuck on "preparing" stage after downloading? and 2) i get random crashes with diferent programs. would it be wise to download a stable version? aidanmaz (7180)
2008-04-06 05:26:00 You might as well wait till 24/4. As it looks like 8.04 will be out then (Thats if it comes out the same time as Ubunutu) Speedy Gonzales (78)
2008-04-06 05:45:00 im really undecided on which linux distro to use. Kubuntu is okay but ubuntu seemed better, i want something that doesnt look to "cheap-ish" Kubuntu is pretty good looking. Whats Opensuse like? aidanmaz (7180)
2008-04-06 05:48:00 If your criteria is mainly "Looks Good", Vista is probably a good choice (it certainly isn't "cheap-ish").

2008-04-06 05:48:00 Never used Opensuse. I've only tried K/Ubuntu 7.10

I've still got the cd's I burned tho

2008-04-06 05:57:00 i have used vista and thought it was a step backwards for M$. when i say cheapish, i mean in looks, like ubuntu (no offense) its gui looks kinda simple and cheap, if u understand what im tryin to say. no offense to anyone of course. aidanmaz (7180)
2008-04-06 06:43:00 If you want to stick with Kubuntu wait and persevere as Speedy says but of course updating could be a problem by the sound of it.Are you aware of the 3 finger trick that is different in KDE 4.0 which I guess is yr desk top.Instead of cntrl-alt delete you cntrl-alt esc and a cross appears then if you clk it clears the page.I found PCLos was a good looking system but of course they have a bit of a delay on updates to the core Ubuntu. The KDE group are flat out working on ironing out the bugs and it should not be too long before it is sorted. kjaada (253)
2008-04-06 07:32:00 I am having a good run with PCLinuxOS after using Fedora/RedHat for years. It is not perfect but it is good - and the KDE desktop is great. Has a live CD to try. johnd (85)
2008-04-06 09:01:00 cheers guys. and no i wasnt aware of the three finger salute for linux......very handy. =] il do some more research. Anything but windows is good for me aidanmaz (7180)
2008-04-06 10:09:00 Mandriva One is a very polished Linux distro, which is based on KDE. It has one of the better looking KDE implementations I've seen.. Sherman (9181)
