655909 2008-04-03 21:48:00 ccleaner deletes it but it'll come back as well

655910 2008-04-03 22:43:00 Index.dat, I think is used by IE to store info about visited internet sites, cookies, etc... kahawai chaser (3545)
655911 2008-04-04 02:35:00 AFAIK, Outlook and Outlook Express also use it, probably via IE.

Look for a utility called Index Dat Spy, or some such.

655913 2008-04-08 06:21:00 as Speedy said - CCleaner.

Basicly, index.dat stores every url you've ever been to, so it gets quite large after a time.

It never gets deleted when you clear "temprorary internet files etc - and even tho you think your temp internet files folder may be empty, it really is still there.

Right click on the "empty" folder and select properties - how much space is used by an empty folder! LOL

Use CC and it will clear it at reboot, and start again with a clean Index.dat
