360630 2005-06-02 11:00:00 The following may be used after take-off and before landing, when the seatbelt sign is off:

portable computers - provided no wireless communication connections are used, and the computer is powered by it's own battery
portable CD and DVD players with headphones
portable radios and televisions with headphones
hand-held electronic games
portable video recorders and cameras
portable electric typewriters
hand held calculators with printer

360632 2005-06-02 21:39:00 Items that are not allowed on planes are gadgets that 'supposedly' interfere with the plane's communication systems.

Mobile phones and wireless internet use frequencies that could interfere with the plane's frequencies.

If your MP3 players does not use wireless signals, it should be fine.

Enjoy your flight, and just a reminder, don't bring drugs back to NZ if you going through Bali!

360633 2005-06-03 04:49:00 What about a Swiss army knife with MP3? Graham L (2)
360634 2005-06-03 04:59:00 Have a colleague that travels with one of these devices
www.swiss-knife.com

Causes all sorts of problems, they assume it has a blade (but this model does not)

Any radio device is a no-no, but realistically they are unlikely to find out at the time.

Only at the NTSB inquest into the 234 fatalaties after the plane crashes will the truth probably come out, as to how the local oscillator in the radio interfered with the planes guidance system.

But by then, its unlikely to affect you anyway.
