359645 2005-05-30 02:35:00 I plan to get some, what are the life expectation differences?

Planned to be used with a external flash unit (4x) and film SLR (4x). The external flash would be used with a digital SLR too, the dSLR would have its own propriatary battery - Li-on rechargeable , hence the flash unit would be used quite a bit.

They are AA sized.

Thanks.

359646 2005-05-30 03:11:00 I don't really understand your question. Are you suggesting that basic maths does not apply?

If they are truly 2,700 mAh, then compared to 2,500 mAh they would be 2,700/2,500 = 8% longer life.

But, if it's only the label that is the difference (most likely the case) then there will be no difference.

There is a lot of mis-representation on battery capacity, and 2,700 mAh is stretching credability unless exceptional quality of componentry and materials are involved with presently available technology.

Read the June PC-User magazine.

359647 2005-05-30 03:23:00 There was a thread about rechargeable batteries in the last week, you might want to find it and have a read.

I use Digitor/DSE (Dick Smith Electronics) 2000mah and they work very well in high drain devices. Bought some more yesterday $33.00 for 4 pack. I think 2000mah is the largest size they make.

359648 2005-05-30 04:16:00 Thanks for the help.

I am getting them abroad when I am getting a few other stuff as well..
They are Power 2000 brands, at 2500/2700mah. I think I may get the 2500mah they are about 33% lesser too :)

359649 2005-05-30 05:12:00 The result of the PC-User test clearly showed that the "no-name" or rebranded ones were generally very poor compared to the mainstream brands.

Unless they have pre-tested them to select only the high capacity ones, its unlikely that the brand would be consistent enough to have all cells at that capacity.

Likely that the DSE 2,000 mAh would be better by the look of the tests (they delivered 2,300 mAh). Some 2,500 mAh "Powerbase" ones only delivered 1,100 mAh as an example. No 2,500 mAh types even came close to delivering that figure. Hence my disbelief in the 2,700 mAh.

359650 2005-05-30 05:34:00 Thanks,

Have anyone tried the VARTA 15 mins batteries and charger? DSE has them here. These are v good reviewed on the net. They are rebranded as Rayovac abroad. They look so alike. Pple believe the statement that they last up to 3x as long as alkalines and they monitor each battery separately to prevent overcharge.

Anyone tried?

359651 2005-05-30 05:42:00 Looks like a good system . The cells aren't monitored by the charger . . . there's a pressure switch in each one . When the pressure gets high enough, the switch opens . The charging done is with fat pulses of current .

I'm tempted, too .

359652 2005-05-30 08:27:00 Varta were one of the few to actually meet their label rating in the test as well. godfather (25)
359653 2005-05-30 08:47:00 I did some research on the net, looks like the Powerex is the best available. Trademe has them in Welly so that saves me to have them sent to me :D

Those 15min batts said they were good for a rush but they only fill up 85% capacity, tested at 81% and trickle charge is possible overnight but to a capacity not as good as powerex and not as economical as powerex too. :)

Thanks!!

359654 2005-05-30 10:35:00 Mostly we are in the dark about battery capacities . Cells come with stated mah capacities, and as GF says, some are suspect .

I have had many Powerex cells, and seemed content with them . However, apart from reading opinions/reviews, the only way for an individual to know is to use the LaCrosse BC-900 charger . This will test the cells for mah capacity, by charging & discharging cells to calculate & display the mah .

The results have been interesting . Powerex were not that good . Sanyo were the best . 2500mah cells mostly displayed higher mah .

You dont have to believe me . . Have a look here at:
