| 360753 | 2005-06-04 22:30:00 | ...continued... Eleven, ban all Sunday morning Yank-style Christian church programmes. Twelve, Lock up Nandoor for promoting cannabis without telling the truth about the effects on one's physical and mental health. Thirteen, reduce the amount of TV adverts. NZ has the highest amount of telly ads in the OECD countries. Fourteen, give decent subsidies for homes and businesses to install solar water heating. Reply to Metla regarding taxing tobacco: I agree that the govt loves the revenue generated by the heavy taxes, but this tax is consumed by the huge health costs created by tobacco. If the taxes are increased annually, eventually (could be 10 - 20 years or more) the reduction in tobacco usage and reduced tax revenue will be offset by reduced health costs. Reply to the inevitable argument that arises about whacky backy being not as bad as alcohol and tobacco: Partially true. Canabis stays in the body for a long time, weeks in fact. Alcohol is metabolized by the liver within hours. But OK, booze and smokes are worse overall - but unfortunately alcohol and tobacco are historically rooted in our society, i.e. widely used and accepted. Canabis is not. To argue that canabis is not as bad does not mitigate its detrimental effect on health (and society). |

Work for the dole. Free health for all. More Police. More wildlife reserves, ocean, bush etc. Make people more accountable for their actions...Jail terms longer. Wind farms to be built NZ wide. Free Education all ages. No idea on how i would finance some of these ideas..... but hey dreams are free. I will probably think of more..... :illogical beetle |

| 360757 | 2005-06-05 00:31:00 | LOL and what is the Student Loan amount owed to the country which we are likely to never see paid back? as they all leave the country or default payments anyway? yeah id like a decent wage to..... and a nice house, and a nice new Jeep.......LOL see those pink pigs flying..... typical Joe Bloggs will never get in to parliment and run it how it should be....or could be..... Take it from a Wanga vegus person who see's the same thing happening with the "I am the Mayor of Wanganui" crap going down....same idea, just bigger group and more power being primeminister. :illogical Nothing will ever happen to keep all of NZ people happy or safe....so the moaners and shakers will always be there waiting for the next idea, to punce on to grumble about. beetle |

| 360759 | 2005-06-05 02:35:00 | Work for the dole. beetle Let me pick on that. I have a unemployed friend. He used to work for Telecom then did PABX stuff then worked for a PC rental co. He does not want to do the same type of thing now. He thought of something along the lines of adult education. Problem: You are not allowed to do any courses while on the dole. People on the DPB are. So how does he retrain for a new career? He even suggested doing voluntary work or work experience type of thing and was told he couldn't do that either. Work for the dole is rubbish as it doesn't help. You just get made to do unskilled menial labour that does not lead to a decent job. |

| 360760 | 2005-06-05 03:04:00 | Yeah you can pick on it... but ive been there too and found living on the dole, not a healthy choice for me physically or mentally..... it is soul destroying if youre on it long term..... and as far as the responses from other people it is hard to take. so i would rather be out doing something and so what if its unskilled stuff? its experience and in my opinion any work is better than no work. as long as the attitude is right you will get places. ive done those types of access / trade course's..... and yes i learnt lots from it and did i get a job out of it? no not at that stage, but i managed to get off the dole and retrain myself and work part time as well, and then i got a job......its attitude and going the extra mile that sometimes just pays off. (and this does not mean the current job i have, or the current lot of study i am doing) Im not saying it works for every one, but keeping people morale up and making them feel good about themselves helps us all, and gets people back into the work force. and if these people did a job even if unskilled, of some form will it not help the community? Voluntary work in my mind is still important, as most services are crying out for them....... and why tell if you do this? Im not sure why you should be penalised for doing good for the community. beetle |

I told him he should cheat, another friend did, didn't tell Winz about his studies and then got a decent job out of it in the end. |
