Then make him solve AKL's energy and traffic crises (under penalty of death or forced residency in AKL, which ever he chooses). And give him the power to put in a nuclear power plant in the AKL area, or to lock up the Waikato power pylon protesters. Second, strap Helen to a dentist chair for a few days so we no longer have to wince when she smiles. Third, like Hamstar said, make all dole bludgers work for their handouts. Fourth, unlike Hamstar, keep the inflow of Asians, especially from India. They are well educated, great for the economy, and have improved Kiwi cuisine considerably. (And no, I am not Asian.) Fifth, ensure that broadband is cheap and truly high speed. Sixth, drop cellphone rates. Evidently our costs are about the highest in the world. Seventh, like Hamstar said, no more extras for Maoris (except for health), and keep raising taxes for tobacco every year until those addicted finally get the message. Eighth, create a ID-User-Pay smart card for all pokie machines. Once a certain limit is reached, say $50 a week, no more gambling, no more ruining families and marriages. Ninth, make parents pay a fine / do community work / imprisonment, for wrong-doings of their children. This includes shoplifting, truancy, vandalism. Tenth, ensure that the proposed Wellington wind farm goes ahead. For those protesting against it, give them free relocation to AKL. |

2005-06-03 23:03:00 | Raising taxes for tobacco is a joke, They use it as a revenue stream knowing that those addicted will continue to buy them (and the extra cost to the health system is not as they say, we will all get old, sick, start dieing and end up in care that costs money, and then in a hole in the ground , smokers and non-smokers have this ahead of them) . If the crap is too nasty to have on the market then simply remove it, make smokers register and get their "fix" on a prescription basis . Not only will the cost be reduced all round but they won't be available in shops for new smokers to start . Problem being that this would kill off the billions of dollars currently flowing in . Imagine the tobacco habit removed from NZ society in one generation . And yeah, tax money going on sex changes makes me sick to the core . Give someone a new hip with that money for gods sake . As does the crap I see on the ACC, Trying to claim back compensation . That orginisation needs to burn in hell .

2005-06-03 23:19:00 | 3) Every $1 contributed to a Pension scheme (locked in until 55), etc. earns $1 less tax per year. How would that work? If I put $1 to a pension scheme, I get $1 back from tax... so in other words its my tax dollar paying for the scheme, and I'm not out of pocket any more than I would be if I paid all that in taxes. So... ... I could put the same amount I pay in tax (lets say $20,000 a year) into a scheme, and as such I pay $20,000 less tax. I'm not out of pocket a cent, however the govt gets no tax money from me. If the whole country followed this thinking, then your govt would receive no personal tax income, and would go bankrupt. Mike.

2005-06-04 00:12:00 | Why Stewart Island? I admit it is cold, dark and it's always raining there but I like Metla's idea of walling off Auckland. Use that as a prison instead. :D I chose Stewart Island because it's about as far away as poosble from civilization. And no one realy wants to live there. Metla's suggestion is rather good

2005-06-04 01:17:00 | Have you ever actually been to Stewart Island? It may be cold and dark but it's far too tranquil and touristy to waste it on locking up scum . What about one of NZ's overseas territories? Niue - pretty barren and depressing so I've heard Tokelau - 13km2 - in a few years they'll be left to drown with the rising sea levels :) Ross Dependency - that's far away as possible from civilization . And no one really wants to live there either .

2005-06-04 01:26:00 | however the govt gets no tax money from me . Maybe we scale it by how close your are to retirement . i . e . if you are 50 you can pay all your tax into the fund; 40 up to 10% and under 30 up to 5% You will also be paying 10% on everything you bought except essentials as I listed above . Remember these are ideas, that will need working .
