656183 2008-04-05 11:41:00 Yep, ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com/) is definitely the most feature-rich freeware CD burning app but I use BurnAware (www.glorylogic.com/) whenever the need to burn a disc comes around., it's just a lot nicer program to use. I recently scored Burn Aware Home Edition at Giveaway of the Day (http:) for free which was good (although you have to jump through a hoop or two). sal (67)
656184 2008-04-05 19:02:00 Good morning
Thanks to all for the efforts, it gives me heaps to try and some sound very good.
Some time ago I used Nero but after visiting the website and looking what is all included I thought it must be an "Elephant" ( to big for what I need/use).

656185 2008-04-05 19:43:00 Well you DONT have to install everything, if u use Nero.

You do have an option of what you want to install

656186 2008-04-05 20:02:00 Why does everyone keep praising Nero? I consider it to be the worst bit of rubbishy bloatware ever written.

I have been looking for a smaller simpler tool for ages and am still looking.

All I want to do is copy data files to rewritable DVD.

656187 2008-04-05 20:13:00 I wasnt praising it.

I was saying that u dont have to install everything, to get it to work, if u use it

Well u dont need anything then, since theres an update that supports burning to DVD. Straight from my computer

This (www.microsoft.com)

Well even tho it says images, it may includes data. I dont know, never used it, even tho its installed

I would probably use it, but I usually put whatever on cdr / dvdr with a menu.

So, I know whats on it

Well,Well, you live and learn.
I d/l from your link. I received a message saying I already had a later version on my computer. Had a look at my "send to's". And found "copy to DVD".
Tried it and it worked!
Guess I should keep a closer watch on what MS includes in theid updates.

Thanks Speedy:thanks :thanks

Yep I was puzzled about that. But I used Nero some year or so ago and it was a constant pain. So stopped using it. But then I was just using CDs.
When I decided to get a DVD burner I had to return the first one as it never worked at all. The next one was installed by my pet technician who charged me less for the burner and installing it than D Smiths had charged me for just buying the first one.
It came with Nero which made me moan. But I soon discovered that NERO had changed immensely. I really like it now and use it all the time, and it was included in the price. It is v6.0 and I do believe v7.0 has got too complicated again.

Another thing that puzzles me is why people need a program. All the various burners I have bought or had dealings with over the years(with one exception) came with some program provided.

656191 2008-04-06 04:31:00 Well programs (whether its Nero or something else) get updated, which adds new features.

And most versions of Nero you get with burners are OEM versions, (which means it can only be used with the burner it came with). Unless you change the serial for it. Even programs like the Ulead programs are limited,if they come with a burner.

Well no Nero 7 and 8 you do the same thing. Only diff is Nero added new features to them (like burning to HD / Blu-ray DVD's as well). And probably adds support for new burners.

And menus (the menus you install are different in V7 and 8). Only thing is, u cant use V 8 menus in V7.

Only prob with V7 and 8, is the size, theyre not exactly small, theyre more like bloatware

Thats why some person made the Lite and Micro version

656192 2008-04-07 01:06:00 DeepBurner (http://www.deepburner.com) is a decent one - it supports saving to ISO files too.

Yes right that would be the right choice.
