656027 2008-04-04 09:45:00 until the last Pic with MS I have had similar things happen, but on older PC's it was a Monitor Problem.

I have also had on very rare occasions had all sorts of Unexplainable "graphic's" similar to the first Pic and it ended up being some sort of strange OS screwup - intermittent as well - hardware tests fine. (haven't got a riser in the wrong place by mistake ? )

Have you tried running the PC from linux live CD ?

That at least would confirm hardware or software.
I ran a couple of CPU stress tests, it did the pattern thing almost straight away the first time, the seciond time it ran for ages, (well a while anyway) going through the various tests and didn't. What was the Tests you ran ?

One hardware test I use is Passmark (www.passmark.com) You can really pinpoint every component on the whole PC. - Burnin test

656028 2008-04-04 09:45:00 Might be a screwed / corrupt BIOS Speedy Gonzales (78)
656029 2008-04-04 10:32:00 Last time I saw that was with an integrated video card, and the system ram stick it was borrowing memory from was faulty, and caused the POST screen to be completely screwed up (though not as bad as yours, I recall)

another time may have been similar, it was loose/broken video card

faulty motherboard/onboard gfx?

Only 2 things I have noticed with faulty CPUs myself - computer never starts or starts sometimes and exhibits faulty memory symptoms

656030 2008-04-04 19:40:00 Swapped out RAM, ran RAM tests.

Ran Passmark, it didn't get to finish.
Ran other CPU stress testers too, ditto.

No I don't have a riser in the wrong place.

I have seen a sick (frying) CPU - and it produces some interesting screen patterns, like I said before.

A completely dead one would not boot at all, but a slightly sick one would. Would try anyway.

I've put in an RMA for it, I'll send them both the board and CPU depending what they think on Monday.

Its not O/S either, we don't even always get that far........

656031 2008-04-04 22:13:00 Well I have never seen a half-dead CPU so I couldn't comment on that....

Have you tried a separate video card instead of onboard?

What about the PSU?... maybe it's got a bad one in there?

656032 2008-04-05 03:52:00 Lost interest now. Run all sorts of things, its gotten worse, cannot load any kind of O/S at all now without various interesting screen effects.
Its hardware.
Its not RAM.
Its not PSU.

It may be the board, northbridge? But I'm betting CPU.

Anyway RMAing both.
