360523 2005-06-02 22:03:00 Is nobody going to mention the idea that your bluetooth laptop would always be on a reasonable internet connection, no matter where you were?

That is what sells 3G to me.

I've done this before with Bluetooth, IR, GPRS and regular GSM. SLOW AND EXPENSIVE. But it does get the job done I guess.

360525 2005-06-03 00:43:00 ... Bluetooth, IR, GPRS and regular GSM. SLOW AND EXPENSIVE. ... Yeah. GPRS wasn't TOO bad as far as slow is concerned, kinda like rural dial up. GSM on the other hand did suck, Heaps better than the crap telecom was pushing at the time though.

I hated IR too. to send that email, you had to line everything up, make sure it was all talking, then press send, stand clear, and pray. If you were lucky the message went through.

I'm quite interested in the latency of the 3G systems, they all talk about reasonable bandwidth.. but does anyone know what the ping times are like?

Last few times I connected to internet via GPRS on the phone, the speed is roughly just slightly less than "ADSL" at 128kbps .

. . . never have I been charged :D

360527 2005-06-04 00:09:00 I would guess that you guys think that polyphonic ringtones, camera, color screens, games, radio / music player... These functions are ALL useless???

For a phone... yes, most definitely!

360528 2005-06-04 11:06:00 sookie, I have nothing more to say... I reckon if you drive, your car doesn't need to have aircon, a CD player, sun visors, wood panelling, interior light eh???

Cause it's pointless to have extras on a car anyway... You just need a shell, 4 tyres, a engine, and brakes.

360531 2005-06-04 12:40:00 I fink the image is about half a millisecond in latency but the sound is les than half a millisecond.

Vodafone says it shud come out near the end of the year

Allthough this would variey on how far away you are from the cellphone tower.
