Review

Panasonic KX-TCD440 Cordless Phone
Panasonic Extra Handset KX-A143NZC

Price Paid : $NZ148 for Main Phone + 2 Extra Handset
From: Dick Smith Electronics (limited time promotion) (www.dse.co.nz)

Good: Price, Voice quality, Reception, Battery
Bad: Don't like the range of ringtones.

Mark: 4.5 / 5

As always, shopping impression down at Dick Smith isn't always the most pleasant. Till crashed while I was there. Took staff -four of them- to sort out every lot of customers they had while I was down there. Like everyone else, I had four staff helping me. They had difficulty locating stock out the back because it was 'new' -or so they said.

Coming home, package was all in original box. Manual and all provided. Quite easy to follow if you can read. Straight forward to install -except some which may take an second effort. Installation smooth. Intercom features will make things much easier instead of having to yell between different floors in the house.

My home phone line has been known to have lots of problems. Possibly because It's old
Some of our phones are old
Never got a splitter when installing ADSL
However, despite all this, the reception is great. I can hear everything nice and clearly. The other good thing I like about this is that the batteries are made up of two AAA rechargeable 700mAH Panasonic batteries (provided). With many Uniden phones, you have to buy the 'other' [normal/traditional cordless phone] type which cost roughly $25, should you need to replace them after a few years.

360490 2005-06-04 04:59:00 However the best DECT sets that are around are the Siemans C100 Gigasets. Not sure of the price but after experience where I work with other sets this is the only one we recommend to end users..PaulW, see my post about the Siemens. Do you know how the hook-flash works? It is the one thing that I can't work out from the manual. Tony (4941)
360491 2005-06-04 10:32:00 Whatever you decide to buy, or already use, ensure that it doesn't transmit in the 10 metre band (around 29.7mHz) as this is very easy to monitor without specialised equipment.

Curiously no one has responded to my original request re stability (physical not electronic) which I guess means there are no real problems in this area.

360493 2005-06-05 01:15:00 We have a Siemens as well .

It works fine, had a few probs and can manage to hook and transfer the calls to units fine . . . .

Only problem we have is as we need to carry it with us at all times it does not have a clip on bit to attach to trouser? or what ever you call them .
so we drop it lots, and stability is fine as long as its on a flat surface .

rage is good better than our home cordless . . . . we can walk out onto foot path and up by railway line and know its still going to pick up calls .

and havent managed or tried . . . to get call waiting . . or answer 2nd or 3rd line while on one call . . . must go have a look at instruction book . . .

360494 2005-06-05 05:00:00 Uniden DECT 2315s are fantastic.

I wish I had two sets.
