I would take wellington over Auckland any day of the week, And if it makes any difference I have spent a couple years residing in each city.

359607 2005-05-30 09:25:00 OK, over the last 15 minutes there have been 3 of these and lots of random streetlights turning on and off (and blocks of HOUSES flashing on and off). What's goin on?

There was a kindof flash, and my PC rebooted and all the houses I could see except in the far distance went black - EXCEPT ours. There are streetlights dotted around that are on, but our street is black.

My house is the only one nearby I can see that is still lit (who knows why).

Then it happened 2 more times, with random whole blocks of houses and streetlights turning on and off in between.

Whats going on?

Cue creepy music.....

359609 2005-05-30 10:30:00 Any sign, sound, sight of atmospheric disturbance like lightening and thunder i unplug eveything. Except the phone. 19.95 in the Worryhouse. Who cares? And the neighbours might want to phone to ask if the phone is out. :D

Sounds pretty lively down yr end george12. Up here in Northland I haven't had a power cut / surge in all the time I've been on the mains. (3 months)

But anyway I am cautious about all this wild wattage in the sky. Friend of mine has a wise maxim-

"Expect the worse and you'll never be dissappointed."

(would rather like it if the Pressf1 admins wouldn't cycle the emoticons)

359610 2005-05-30 10:42:00 Auckland, engrossed in a spreadsheet, sudden thunder around 4pm, the house shook, computer stayed on but I seem to have fried the external modem. Now running the slow laptop through dial-up for entertainment. Great. Mercury (1316)
