360866 2005-06-03 06:09:00 Am wanting any feedback on mobile phones for personal use – ie am retired. Would like to toss the Palm and be able to use a phone with that function. Vodaphone network – anyone any suggestions – would prefer to keep it under $500.
Appreciate your help.

360867 2005-06-03 06:18:00 Don't do it. Get a basic phone and keep your Palm. As soon as you combine function, you increase complexity, shorthen battery life and regert your decision.

I had a Palm Tungsten T; sold it and got a Harrier PDA/Phone, but kept my old cellphone.

However, if you must check out trademe for an old Palm Treo.

360868 2005-06-03 06:35:00 Palm Treo 600 or 650

I use one, they are fine on GSM (Vodafone).

Email remotely available (at a $ cost, bearable just for viewing the headers though).

360869 2005-06-03 09:26:00 I would strongly recommend the Treo 600 or 650. I have had a Treo 600 since they first came out, after having owned 4 previous PalmOS devices. I have been very satisfied with the Treo - I use it as both a phone, an organiser, and an email device when I am travelling (I do a large amount of that within NZ).

Prior to this I had a Palm m515 and a Nokia 6110, sold them both and bought the Treo. Why carry both devices when one does the job of both. Check out TradeMe for prices. And you may like to look at reviews of both models on http://www.infosync.com where they get good ratings.

A colleague has a Harrier, and I think they are too large and clunky (apart from which I have my diary dating back to 2001 and a heap of contacts in PalmOS and I would have to start all over again with another OS).

Re KiwiTT_NZ's response - I don't agree. Battery life is superb for the Treo, "complexity" is a non-issue, and I have never regretted my decision.

360870 2005-06-03 10:58:00 My Treo 600 also has amazing battery life, and the 650 is supposed to be better.
I have not found a downside yet.

I have had 10 cellphones & 6 PDA's (both Palm and Windows PocketPC based).

I have no concept of the "complexity" on the Treo that KiwiTT refers to, especially when compared to a Windows PocketPC device.
