360653 2005-06-02 16:32:00  Windows (the company, not the opsys) has announced today (June 02, '05) that is will no longer be a patsy to everyone getting free updates for the Win 2000 system . Seems Mr . Bill feels a negative cash flow into some abyss trying to patch holes in the code and security of that opsys . The last SP was to have been SP-5, but now that's debatable .

Talk about philanthropy! Another sterling example of orphan mentality .

Let's see now:

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . this is the same company that built ME to preclude any problems with the Y2K problem . And the success of that? THE MOST UNSTABLE PLATFORM SINCE GO-GO BOOTS!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . this is the same company that rents us security to fill holes in the code of XP .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . this is the same company that now appears to be using a fudge factor on the new Longhorn . (what we have here is a failure to communicate!) . . . . seems the touted Longhorn will just wind up as a Service Pack to XP anyway!

C'mon, BILL! Say it aint so!

360654 2005-06-03 04:25:00 Got a little more info about M$:

copy/pasted from Silicon Valley News:

McAfee working on Market-share Recovery Pro: With the prospect of Microsoft finally taking its rightful ownership stake in the consumer antivirus market it singlehandedly created (see "Nice, stable little system you got here; shame if anything happened to it"), companies that have built entire businesses around Windows' weaknesses are thinking hard about what they must do to survive, and none more so than McAfee . The PC security giant this morning announced plans to purchase Wireless Security, the outfit responsible for WSC Guard and McAfee's own WifiScan service . The acquisition, which will see Wireless Security's technology bundled into McAfee's core products, will round out McAfee's services and give it a bigger footprint in the consumer Wi-Fi security market .
