360161 2005-06-01 03:48:00 I have set up a Home Theatre and wonder if members can tell me some DVD titles with good surround sound. Many that I have watched are not that good
and it appears that NZ does not get the good sound tracks beyond 5:1?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

There is a movie about a second world war german U boat which is excellent apparently (sorry, I haven't watched it myself) but I can't remember the name but its something like U609.

360163 2005-06-01 05:43:00 How far beyond 5.1 do you want to go?

7.1 is pretty much unsuported worldwide due to near nobody owning such a setup.

DVD's on my theatre set up sound fantastic......and thats just 5 speakers (no sub, which I hate to death anyway)

360166 2005-06-01 06:19:00 Saving Private Ryan is another goodie, the sound of bullets flying here, there and everywhere is fantastic.

Perhaps you need to play around with your speaker placement. Rear speakers should be at ear height or higher, and pointing towards the listener not towards the front.

Have a look here (www.dolby.com) for info on correct speaker placement

Read you receiver's manual for tips and any relevant settings that you could try.

360167 2005-06-01 07:22:00 Give the Fifth Element a try.

Most Home theatre demo's I have been to use this.

360169 2005-06-01 12:39:00 Star Wars DVDs are the best for testing and enjoying your surround, imho....
or you can also try Matrix 1, 2 or 3...

360170 2005-06-01 22:24:00 I saw Empire Of The Sun on a Surrond Sound Home Movie setup and the scene where the P51 Mustangs attacked was unreal, as they came from behind to fly overhead and to the front the sound followed them.
