360004 2005-05-31 09:07:00 I have ADSL , 2Mb with 10GB cap then speed controled.

I have read that if you dont drop the conection then telecom cant speed control your conection.

my router is on a UPS and has been up for 20 days.

i have used 16GB and telecom has not speed controled me yet.

I am very happy to still have high speed and 10 days to go to next cycle.

my flat mate is saying that i am stealing bandwidth from telecom and it is wrong of me.

I say i have payed for all you can use ADSL and so i will use it all i can.

is it wrong?

360006 2005-05-31 09:30:00 when you go over 10GB they slow your speed to same as dial up. robsonde (120)
360007 2005-05-31 09:49:00 I wouldnt say its wrong after all its their fault that their capping systems dont work properly. Overdrive_5000 (4950)

First: Yes they can.
Second: Lucky you - they haven't. Yet.

360009 2005-05-31 09:53:00 If its Telecom, it's not wrong, steal all you can!

And this should be a poll!

360010 2005-05-31 10:09:00 Even if you do reboot your modem they don't usually cap your speed. I've been over my limit a few times but not by a lot. I think that they can still cap you even if you do not reboot your modem. ad_267 (6193)
360011 2005-05-31 10:15:00 they'll get over it lol Codex (3761)

You probably read it here, and a reply went 'Thats not true' which I agree with. I don't know how it works exactly but they can throttle your speed easily if they wanted, they could just disconnect you from the exchange if thats how it works.

I'm on the same plan as you (2mbit/10gb) and found that the first three months went uncapped (averaged 100 gb per month) but on the fourth month (may) was almost instantly throttled after meeting the cap (1st of may :/). I was truely humbled by a month of 56k.

360013 2005-05-31 11:28:00 Automated process could easily reset your port, causing renegotiation at lower speeds.

Simple as.

And it's not theft. Your flatmate doesn't sound too smart.
