359429 2005-05-28 23:15:00 Has anyone dealt with Parallel Imported (www.parallelimported.co.nz)
Do they really give genuine warrantys and not sell dodgy products.

I was planning on Buying Motorola E398 mobile from them. Been trying to call
their contact numbers listed on the site - 0800 number but keeps saying "not available from your area" - I am in Auck though.

And also when i try their normal landline it goes nowhere. This really seems dodgy. Then again maybe its a glitch...although i have been trying since yesterday.

Anyone with any opinions on this company and their products - in particular cell phones?

Cheers

359430 2005-05-28 23:21:00 a family member bought some gear throuigh them. seem ok tho what they are like when the gear dies is a different story.

dunno about thephone number tho....unless your trying to call from a cell phone as a lot of 0800 numbers don't work with cell phones.

359431 2005-05-29 03:07:00 be very careful, as they don't like to give out photocopied manuals (paper costs too much). any repairs maybe sent overseas, so you would have to buy another phone as spare... local repair agents do not like them & will not fix your phone unless you want to pay. quarry (252)
359432 2005-05-29 03:36:00 Hmm yes I have noticed them around.I am quite supicious of them.I didn't ring the number but I emailed them and they said pay $10 for a 1 year warranty. The warranty they offer at the moment is I think 30 days..

Sounds very dodgy to me.Even In Hk the official price of e398 is about $370NZ

Hmm sounds rather strange to me

359433 2005-05-29 08:55:00 Personal Experience - DO NOT BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM PARALLEL IMPORTED

I bought a product from them in Auck about 3 months ago and the sweet talking salesman went thru all the features and i was impressed not only with price but the "initial" customer service.

When i got home i found the user guide missing (Eng ver). It had user guides in there in but in Finnish/Swedish...etc

When i returned to the store to ask for one, i was simply told they didnt have it and can mail it in 4-5 days. They had no courtesy to tell me in the beginning otherwise i would not have bought it. I had to leave NZ next day so i said well i want to return it but i was bluntly told "NO" by the smart ass sales person even though i had bought it early in the morning. I am not too sure if consumer act applies here as the sales person said it doesnt. Is this true??

I ended up up getting the guide over the internet but i will never go back to that shop again. I suggest others not too and its better to pay extra few hundred $$ elsewhere and get everything the first time and good service

359434 2005-05-29 09:01:00 Well I have bought two products from them. A digicam about a 18 months ago and recently a car stereo. Both came with full packaging and manuals. Haven't any experience of their service if you have problems though. Jen (38)
359435 2005-05-29 09:02:00 i teach adult classes & one of them is digital cameras - i get so many stories about some of the parallel importers - mostly bad, mostly re english manuals or parts missing or saleman giving abuse. it's buyer beware. i've just bought a new knoica camera - import price was like $100 cheaper than my own supplier, but i paid the extra & i can definitely sleep at nights! quarry (252)
359436 2005-05-29 09:09:00 I've purchased from Parallel Imported, as have several of my work colleagues and some of my family.

No problems at all. Great to deal with, and excellent pricing.

359438 2005-05-29 11:38:00 if you don't have a problem, great. the problem happens when your appliance stops working etc. then it sometimes needs to be sent back to japan. if it's a phone you'll have to get another for the next month or so. as per manuals, there was a problem in the past & i still get stories even now. however some of you have been lucky. its not just one shop, though - it's others around Auckland. some unfortunately decided they didn't speak english anymore, although at time of sale, they said 'no visa, no amex, only eftpos, thank you!'
don't think i'm rascist, because i am the same as they are.
i actually get a lot of jobs as 'helpers' to unfortunate customers, trying to get their manuals, or money back etc.
