| 657502 | 2008-04-10 00:27:00 | Gday, Long Time pc user, first time pc tech forum poster. This isn't about PC's directly, but I have a tech problem with my ps2 and i figured this was a good place to ask. Im playing Final Fantasy viii on my PS2 Slimline and after about 15hrs game time found that the PS2 memory card did not work for a PS1 game. I tryed a PS1 memory card (which was advised) but it is not working. I have over 30hrs game time which i refuse to lose, so I have kept my PS2 slimline on for a constant 4 days now. Don't get me wrong, I know this is not good for the computer. My question is, can I use an ice pack or a cooling device (waterproofed ofcourse) and sit my PS2 on it to keep the unit from overheating? If not, what can i do to keep my PS2 happy? and does long term endurance for a computer system cause permanent damage? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. :banana Its peanut butter jelly time its peanut butter jelly time |

I guess you could try cooling with icepack but I don't know if it would cool anything more than just the case, probably not likely to cool the internals very well. You should probably just keep it in a cool spot in the shade and try to get a working memory card as soon as possible... |

As with PC's this issue is about airflow. The best idea is to direct a decent fan at the intake vents of the PS2. As long as the fan is drawing in fresh air and not recycled warm air there should be no problems. Even a full sized room fan (on a stand) pointed close at the PS2 will probably do the trick nicely. |

I have had a few of my customers complain about theirs overheating over the years, a couple even had theirs catch fire after several hours of game play. You must have some fairly decent airflow in your house already for it to still be alive, but please be careful. You do not want to place ANYTHING cold outside it as the drastically increased difference between internal and external temperatures is probably going to cause more humidity/some condensation which you want to avoid. Keep the vents nice and clean but definately do not have your PS2 on any carpeted surface, best be some wooden or metal surface, not that it'll help much with thermal conductivity as the entire surface of that console doesn't heat like that. Its peanut butter jelly time its peanut butter jelly time :drool ... but I hope this doesn't have anything to do with your PS2 :P |
