657324 2008-04-09 09:12:00 I'm doing a rebuild on a clone PC with a Gigabyte K8M800-8237 MoBo - XP Home went on fine, but under Device Manager, I've got the old yellow ? as follows:

? other devices
? Multimedia Controller
? Multimedia Video Controller
? Multimedia Video Controller

sound, video and game controllers
! C-Media AC97 Audio Device

There's a GeForce FX 5700LE card which is working fine - how do I identify these devices and get drivers for them????

657325 2008-04-09 09:18:00 Get the drivers from the gigabyte site

For that mobo

? Multimedia Controller probably the soundcard drivers

Multimedia Video Controller

? Multimedia Video Controller probably the video drivers, get them from the Nvidia site, make sure theyre the right ones

Did someone install a TV tuner?? The above could be a tuner.

! C-Media AC97 Audio Device - Have you installed another soundcard??

Does it say this is conflicting in device manager??

Also, dont forget to download and install the chipset drivers FIRST, before anything else from the Gigabyte site

657326 2008-04-09 09:28:00 Are you sure you got those numbers correct ? there is a GA-K8VM800M here (www.gigabyte.com.tw), which is the google results for GA-K8M800, there is a k8m800 VIA Chipset ???

If you have a separate graphics card you dont need the onboard graphics,

Multimedia Video Controller

you say the "GeForce FX 5700LE card which is working fine ", if you open the device manager , does the card show as drivers installed under " Display Adaptor" ( no ? ) Bit strange why there are two Multimedia Video Controller's

657327 2008-04-09 09:33:00 Gigabyte website was my first point of call Speedy - MoBo isn't even listed under the GA-K8xxx range!!!! :waughh:

Already downloaded the latest nVidia drivers.

Yeah, you're quite right Wainuitech - I was getting the MoBo number from CPU-Z and Belarc - pulled the side off the case and it is a GA-K8VM800M

nVidia is appearing correctly under display adapters too.

657329 2008-04-09 09:42:00 I think what you posted is the chipset numbers - These appear to match (drivers.softpedia.com) ??

have a look through Here as well (www.viaarena.com) select the device and look carefully at the drivers numbers - K8M800

EDITED: ok if the Card is working OK, ignore the onboard Graphic unless you are going to use it, I have had troubles sometimes if both sets of drivers are installed, the onboard drivers can be downloaded and saved for later us if required.

pulled the side off the case and it is a GA-K8VM800M:D  Easiest way

657330 2008-04-09 09:47:00 Yeah looks like you're right :o I should've just opened the case and checked the board first. nofam (9009)
657331 2008-04-10 06:50:00 So it turns out that one of the Multimedia Video Controller entries was, in fact a TV Card - a Winfast TV2000 XP Expert to be precise, which I've downloaded drivers for. This has installed successfully, but now I've got 2 new entries under other devices, for 'unknown device'

Why would successfully installing a TV card make those suddenly appear??? Initially there were 8 entries showing unknown device, but a reboot got rid of 6 of them.

:badpc:

657332 2008-04-10 07:01:00 Are there 4 entries (I think it is) under sounds video and game controllers
for the tuner?

Something like:

WDM audio, crossbar, video capture, and audio capture?

Delete those unknown devices then reboot, see if they come back
