656715 2008-04-07 05:01:00 My neighbour has had a problem for a couple of weeks. She uses Win XP as her OS and IE and Outlook Express . She is able to connect to most sites on the internet but not to any secure sites. I have tried to help her but have run out of ideas. She does her banking on the internet but because of this problem is not able to do any banking ay present. She used MSN proir to the"bug" but as she logs on to "My MSN" she con not connet as it is also a secure site. I have run Spybot and adware and AVG to fix any viruses.

Any help would be appreciated

656716 2008-04-07 05:20:00 Any bugs may have done some alterations to the IE Settings.

Try this - Open IE, go to tools/Internet options/ Security Tab - Down the bottom is "default Level" click that, if that doesn't work, same tab, click "reset all Zones to default Level"

IF that doesn't work same Internet Options - Advanced tab - Down the bottom right hand corner is a button Called "Reset" - click that. -- That will reset all the IE settings to default, and of course disable any plugins etc. See if that fixes it.

I have carried out both of these suggestions and it will not connect to any https site. All http sites I have tried are connecting OK.
Any other suggestions.

656718 2008-04-08 02:16:00 What about firewalls? Any installed, besides XP's??

What version of IE?? IE 6 or 7? Or the beta version of 8?

If its IE 6 SP2 (support.microsoft.com)

Also try some of these (inetexplorer.mvps.org)

656719 2008-04-08 04:35:00 By Any chance does she have nortons ? - If so uninstall it, Nortons can cause more problems than ( censored,--- family forum) ;)

Also check these;
Open IE and click Help, About Internet Explorer Look at Chiper Strength it should be 128 bit. Example (www.imagef1.net.nz).

Also check - click Internet Options, and select the Content tab
Under Certificates, click Clear SSL State
Click OK when you receive the message that the SSL cache was successfully cleared.

Just check this - In internet options/Advanced/ Make sure the Enable Third Party Browser Extensions is UN-TICKED.

Also download Ccleaner from my sig, run it and clear out the Temp files, sometimes something may be lurking in them that stopping the sites.
