362283 2005-06-09 01:54:00 hi,

who here has a 2 story house and has had skytv installed there.they say with sky digital they install a phone jack too.how would they install a phone jack downstairs if there is no phone jack upstairs but only downstair. Will the phone cord be visisble along the edges of the ceiling etc? cuz obviously there is not attic between the 1st or 2nd floor.

also how do u access pay per view channels using the sky remote?

362284 2005-06-09 02:09:00 the installer should lift up the edge of the carpet and place the wire under there superoman (6703)
362285 2005-06-09 02:09:00 Access to pay per view via the remote is achieved by the set top box dialling out using the phone line.

I refuse to connect my Sky decoder to the phone. If I want pay per view, I will ring up and order what I want.

Only by knowing exactly how the phone wiring runs in the house and how the house is constructed could your other question be answered.

Goddie, I'm with you and agree totally - no "Big Brother" and nobody can pile up bills without my knowledge.

362287 2005-06-09 03:10:00 Incidentally, I'm having occasional issues with my ADSL connecting, and I think it's because of the Sky decoder. Can I just unplug the phone line out of the back with no adverse effects? Rugrats (6953)

Yes.
I once had a ring from them (prior to pay per view) as they were unable to get a "response" so I plugged it in for a day then took it out. That was years ago, never heard from them since.

362289 2005-06-09 05:55:00 I suspect the phone connection is so that they can disable your decrypting if you don't pay the bill. ;) Graham L (2)

It is to allow you to interact with your account

LOL graham (and no they don't need the phone line for that)

you can refuse to have the phone jack installed, but if its an easy one your wishes may be ignored as its worth $$$ to the installer.
as with any work done its up to you if you let them do it. some of the installers are well known for being extremly rough. for eg having rust stains down the outside of your house from the cable being stable gunned to the wall.
