362022 2005-06-08 01:55:00 If Xtra goes ahead with this what do you think will be the impact for their customers? It's inconceivable that customers won't be able to email out, isn't it?

362023 2005-06-08 02:17:00 I use port 22 anyways, so no affect here

This may be of interest though:

It will not stop you sending mail through the Xtra mail server as you do now.
It only blocks you sending mail through port 25 to other than your ISP mail server such as from a virus infected computer with its own smtp

362025 2005-06-08 04:04:00 IIRC, Pop3 is port 110, correct?

This of course will remain un-affected.

Realistically, how many people these days use Telnet aside from getting to their router, and why are they not using SSH (Even on windows, SshWindows).

Good idea if you ask me :)

362026 2005-06-08 04:23:00 What are you talking about Telnet for Chilling? Telnet is port 23.

I'm not on Xtra, I use Orcon so hopefully they don't do the same thing. Or hopefully Telecom don't put the block in at their end of things. But it won't really matter too much for me, if I can't use my webhosts mailserver I'll just send things via my ISP one.

I don't believe in port blocking though. But I guess it can help at times.
