361619 2005-06-06 04:53:00 I was wondering around my garage and found an air gun my dad bought ages ago. I remember jamming the barrel with 5-10 pellets(I was young; I tried to fire more than 1 at a time).

The barrel is still jammed, any ideas on how to unjam the barrel? I tried poking with an metal rod, but I think I just made it worse (barrel is rifled I think).

Theirs a all over coat of rust on the rifle, any rust cleaning sprays or things I can use to clean off the rust?

The airgun is same as those you pay $2 at fairs to shoot targets.

361620 2005-06-06 05:14:00 you mean it's got a barrel that shoots around corners lol
first thing i would do is take it to your local gunsmith to see if it's worth repairing, you can purchase blueing kit's, but not sure if it will get the rust if it's bad.

361621 2005-06-06 05:22:00 gunsmith would be the best but the wait and cost might make it not worth it.

you could try shoving a plastic rod (metal will damge the bore but plastic won't) down the barrell and useing brute force to shove the pellets out. some bore cleaner (some of the lead removal stuff not the copper remover) down it might help a little.

as far as rust goes...spray a bit of inox on it (or crc/wd40 whatever you have handy) and leave it for a day or 2. if its a cheapo its proberly not blued just painted.

361622 2005-06-06 05:55:00 You could also try warming the barrel in the hope that it will loosen the slugs a little. Warm not hot. Murray P (44)
361623 2005-06-06 06:33:00 Using a brass rod slightly smaller than the bore and lightly tapping it with a hammer to dislodge the pellets is what is recommended here.

Where you will get such a brass rod is another matter...

As for the rust: Inox, as tweak'e said.

361624 2005-06-06 07:06:00 Inox? how much and where?

Wouldn't heating the metal make it expand?

Would soapy water work?

your local sevice station, repco or supermarket will sell crc, wd40 or whatever your poison is.

361626 2005-06-06 07:33:00 *Cough* It was tweak'e who suggested the bore cleaner, not me . ;)

Inox can be bought from places that sells engineering supplies, hardware, etc . CRC and WD40 from the same or from a service station as plod says . Cost is around $10 for the latter maybe? Not sure, haven't bought any for a while .

As for the soapy water . . . . no . :)

i prefer inox, its non-petrolum based and seems to draw rust out a lot better than crc/wd40.

soapy water ?? no! the idea of the bore cleaner is so it eats the lead pellets a bit makeing them easier to remove. if u have none try poaring a bit of inox down the barrel and leave it to soak overnight.

Would this be a .177 cal rifle like a BSA?

To load the rifle insert one only slug and fire.
I must admit that I sometimes used two!!

You may also if this is the case break the rifle and pour sewing machine oil into the cavity at the REAR. Not down the barrel. This will lubricate the air piston which will then drive more air through the barrel which may expel the slugs loaded in the barrel.

For outside rust on the metal parts I suggest machine oil on a cloth and keep rubbing.

For the stock use Boiled Linseed Oil.

Is this a .177 cal rifle or a BB gun?

A BB gun fires round pellets.
