361508 2005-06-06 02:47:00 I've only made one purchase through paypal, and it went through fine. I haven't used it again yet, but now I have a password I can use it any time I need to. Sb0h (3744)
361509 2005-06-06 05:58:00 I have used Paypal occasionally over several years, mainly when buying from Ebay.

You have to weigh up the risk of giving your credit card details online to organisations like PayPal, BidPay, Amazon, Live365, numerous ( I hope reputable) shareware sites, etc with the convenience of online purchasing of goods and services.

When I think of all the sites that have my details, then I just hope that hackers don't get hold of the info.

361511 2005-06-06 07:35:00 Yes bank wires are accepted sometimes on ebay by seller . NZ banks charges $25 for this and the seller may have a additional bank charge as well . This method you lose protection if the seller become bad .

Paypal you get some protection, as well as from your NZ c/c company .

Overall, the cheaper option is paypal the FX rate may not be as good as what its rated in NZ as the seller is exchanging it from abroad but should still be less than the additional bank fees unless you getting a large purchase . I have used paypal since 2000 no problems with Paypal . I used to use another one called bid something . . . they had service charges (paypal) does not . With c/c you can do a reverse payment if the need arises thou if the other guy put an against case vs you, you need to provide evidence why you are right but there are some protection nevertheless .

Like bank wire, you can also do bank cheque (draft) and post this abroad if you like . Bank charge for cheque and then postal, no protection . But a solution . If a large purchase this may be lesser than paypal's FX rate .

Don't remember custom's import tax if GST value (12 . 5%) of product and delivery amounts to $50NZ . If less they don't bother, if $50NZ or more you have to pay before goods are dispatched from Auckland .

361512 2005-06-06 07:50:00 I used paypal to make a relatively large order from Canada, it went smoothely. Went the bank statement came through, the price was a bit high, but I believe that to be on account of the poor exchange rate the credit card company gave us. Growly (6)
