| 362524 | 2005-06-13 07:00:00 | What does being an Asian got anything to do with going to balls? From what I know, balls are a worldwide thing, not just for Kiwis. Has it changed since.. !? As you know, I am an Asian with Asian parents. My parents, especially my dad, is very very particular about my studies. He does not want me to have an early relationship with someone opposite sex. Besides, he thinks that getting into *special* relationship with someone will jeopardise my studies and be a distraction. Yeah, certainly, back in Malaysia they also do have ball, but they called it as "prom". We do not need to wear those smart suits nor pay that much money for just food and drinks. Anyway, thanks for the response from everyone! Cheers :) |

As someone involved in the "entertainment biz" i feel i should point out that the hidous price of this gig... er i mean ball.... would reflect more than just the hideous price of the kai. There's also - admin (peoples time, phone calls, ticket printing, etc, etc) -security (bouncers cost very real money, particually when dealing with large groups of females) -venue hire (scary stuff) -entertainment (band, DJ, Bobo the clown, whatever) ;) -equipment hire (P.A. lights etc AKA expensive people like me) ;) -decoraters and hired decorations -A whole heap of other stuff thats all just so arrrrggghhh! :@@: - and last, but not least............ the kai :D |

Besides, he thinks that getting into a *special* relationship with someone will jeopardise my studies and be a distraction. Yeah, certainly, back in Malaysia they also do have balls , but they called it as prom. ", but they call them proms." ", but they're known as proms." ". but they're called proms." With your excelent level of English you wil be also aware of the possible risiblity of the ambiguity of such expressions as " they also have balls." Hope you had a good Sat nite anyway. I did. ;) ;) |

Throwing out and handling a drunk/fighting/aggressive male has to be done with care to avoid an assault charge. Throwing out and dealing with a drunk/fighting/aggressive female physicly, even if to break up a fight is risking sexual harrasment charges, or worse. Female bouncers are needed, and even then its trickier. "But your honour, as he wrestled me off the woman i had on the floor, he touched me." ..... you get the idea. Gone are the days when bouncers had the right to overpower and remove people if needed without the risk of legal complications. The cost reflects this, particually when the gathering is composed of many females. Legally speaking, police should be called if things get to the point where bouncers might need to flex muscle. In practice of course, this is a waste of time due to lack of responce, and what has do be done is done. Personally i think if someone is behaving in such a way that they need to be thown out or pulled off someone they are attacking, then gender shouldn't be an issue. The law however is an ass. ...< end serious moment >... |

However at university we are recommended that you really only need to work 40 hours a week (a full time job) and still pass well (A+ is you manage your time very well). I don't know about other peoples lifestyles but you really have to fit in an active social life, jobs etc and ignoring relationships is a bit of a waste of the growing up experience. Sometimes I think that people spend far too much time studying for something (especially highschool) that will not count for jack. I think that I've learnt more working parttime jobs than I ever did at school, knowing calculus isn't going to help you in a business situation. Justing pouring petrol on the flame :) - David |
