362502 2005-06-11 10:15:00 Yes, I am now on XP with SP2, but the Messenger symbol at the bottom right of screen shows:" Not signed in" when I put my cursor over it, so I just assumed that meant it was inactive & I could ignore it?That is not the same thing as the Messenger Service. The one you have is the chat program Messenger which is easy enough to disable if you don't use it.

You are unlikely to have the Messenger Service running as SP2 disables it.

Meanwhile, looks as if I've got my own personalised sneaky popup others don't see. Exclusive, huh?Yep, sounds like you have a set of popups exclusive to you only - you must be really special then! :p

362503 2005-06-11 14:32:00 As the title speaks, someone please tell me whether I should or shouldn't go to the school ball. Thanks

The fact that you want people to decide for you is kind of sad........and of all topics...wether or not you should go to the ball???. Your asking for a full on war of insults....

i'll kick it off...

your obviously a little insecure about the whole ball subject, Nervous.. in saying this its best you do not go, as you will more than likley make yousefl look like a bit of a fool in front of the opposite sex. So be a nerd and stay at home.

i'll kick it off...I thought there was something refreshingly honest about sharing a moment of uncertanty with us all. It is indeed wise to seek alternative perspectives at times of uncertainty, and then do what feels right anyway :p

Jams, if you dont like the more personal side of this forum, then you know what part to avoid reading ey?

362505 2005-06-11 15:34:00 If you have a partner, go. If you don't have a partner get one, then go. If not your not missing out on much. E|im (87)

This is unduly harsh. Certainly not polite and constructive.
I admire James for posting this topic, and side with PersonThingy:

The ball/formal was last night and is now over so you have missed your chance to tell James what he should do. ;)

I agree. If everyone else has partners then it may not be such a great nite if you're the 3rd wheel.
Unless of course there's unlimited free booze/food on offer (but being a school ball that may not be the case).
I never went to mine and I don't remember many people saying what a great nite it was. Some of the parties in the last few weeks of school were good though....at least make sure you go to those.
With balls at uni, I seem to remember people being less fussed about taking a partner (probably cos it's more of a get pissed and have fun nite and maybe pick someone up along the way).

362509 2005-06-12 02:37:00 One :2cents: more thing, Jams: I, and surely others, have enjoyed reading various stories and comments, such as JJJJJJ's and Laura's post. While the original question or statement in a PF1 thread may be disagreeable for some, it is the divergent replies (even straying from the actual topic) that are often the best. So again, I and others thank Jameskan for starting this post. Strommer (42)
362510 2005-06-12 02:48:00 Laura: I have been using that site for at least a couple of years and have never experienced any popups like you describe. I disabled Opera's popup blocker and even tried IE but still got nothing.

Thirded. That site has never given me strife, I see no reason why it did it to you...

362511 2005-06-12 12:01:00 Pah, I think I hate school balls. Never been, never will. Just they idea of it puts me off. Something serious would have to happen for me to go, like, they give a free pc to every person or something :) mejobloggs (264)
