| 657048 | 2008-04-10 00:22:00 | . When cars have engines supplied by Intel and petrol tanks by Seagate you could compare their warranty conditions. Just so long as the brakes and steering weren't provided by microsoft, I'd be happy |

| 657050 | 2008-04-10 03:00:00 | NZ Law (AKA the Consumer Guarantees Act) outranks HP and its crap policies. Don't believe everything they say, because they can neither contract out of the Act nor impose policies that offer lesser benefits than the legislation, but whether you want to take them on or not is your business. Cheers Billy 8-{) I'd be interested in just wants lengths you had to go to to get the GCA enforced. Many retailers have a complete disregard for the CGA Problem is that HP arn't bound by the CGA, the retailer is (since HP actually didnt sell to the customer/retail) The retailer is stuck in the middle. Ive had a supplier tell me that they arnt bound by the CGA, so warranty is on their terms (leaving us, the retailer to sort it all out) I guess if you are willing to make a big enough fuss & generate some bad publicity, then HP will just want the problem to go away quietly & will back down. problem to go away quietly |

| 657052 | 2008-04-10 04:12:00 | Can warranty be refused if the customer no longer has all the original packaging?? eg, the box (& manual, driver disk) that a motherboard was supplied in ?? |

| 657053 | 2008-04-10 04:34:00 | That's a restock/refund sort of question. The issue should be "Is the item being sent back in appropriate packaging?" How would you know when the fault occurred if it was packed in a paper bag? The only item I've had to send back recently was a camera. The instructions then were to send it back without batteries or any accessories. |

I only ask as Ive had a supplier refuse warranty because we didnt have the original box, manual & disk (for a motherboard). Cant be expected to keep the box, surely. |

It was a Gigabyte board and because Gigabyte say the component had to be shipped back in original packaging that was the reason given at the time. Mind you lately thats all changed, Its now ship it back in the original box if you have it, and DONT return any manuals/CD's/ Cabling only the board. I always tell any customers to keep the MB box - in case of warranty claims, its not exactly big and most people chuck it in the cupboard or up in the roof. |

| 657056 | 2008-04-10 10:50:00 | You could say the same about a computer then. Why is it assumed that they are user upgradable? HP certainly don't advertise that they are. HP can say that if you wanted to add an extra hard drive you should have done it at the time of purchase and not a month later. That is negative-thinking bollocks. You are free to make decisions about additions or upgrades any time you want, it is none of HP's business. If you buy a new car and want anything done to it under the bonnet you have to take it back to the dealer or an authorised mechanic otherwise you could void the warranty, no? No, but the same principles apply. Adding a new stereo or different seats won't invalidate warranty on the engine & drive train, but add wider wheels and tyres, or go faster gear and they can rightfully reject a warranty claim on the suspension, engine, transmission or drive train (depending on the fault associations) if the power increase or altered usage is such that increased stress and/or accelerated wear and tear is likely. You can make up as many wild or fanciful scenarios as you like, but if you just use some commonsense, reason and politeness you'll find a happy medium. Getting angry doesn't work, treat them right and they will want to help you, it is a mind game. My kids hate going shopping with me because I am always getting discounts and freebies, apparently without even asking. All they hear is some seemingly irrelevant conversation followed by the magic words, discount or freebie. As I have said before on this forum, I have lost count of the replacements and/or refunds I have had over the years, but it amounts to tens of thousands of dollars in goods or refunds (sounds good, but it's only that big because I had a whole car replaced when well out of warranty) but the only times I've had to go to the Disputes Tribunal have been to help other people. I don't accept bad service or faulty product, and I don't moan about it on forums, I do something about it. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 657057 | 2008-04-11 05:04:00 | I have a HP A6260A, which is around 4-6 weeks old. I want to add another HDD, but note there is a seal which indicates the warranty will be voided if broken. I have tried to ring HP on 0800 441147, to see if it is possible for me to add the HDD, but cannot get an answer. Likewise HP.com/NZ is unresponsive. Whats the vote ? Do I slit the seal and install the HDD anyway, or do I dwiddle my thumbs for another 10/11 months, then install it ? __________________________________________________ _____________________________ Done it !! Now has 4 gig ram, an additional 500 gig HDD, and an updated vid card. AND including the updates and the monitor it cost absolute peanuts. Way to go!! |
