362252 2005-06-11 02:16:00 OK, my :2cents: worth: They are disgusting vile smelly things generally worn without socks so that salt(?) water and sweat can premeate the hide... look marginally more 'nerdish' worn with walk socks and a distinct fashion statement for the courageous when worn with those short socks with the pom poms on the back. Not sure why they are called Timberlands, but should be prohibited unless being worn on a boat in international waters and banned from within 20 miles of terra firma :D Shortcircuit (1666)

Thanks for the laugh  Brucie, especially with Metla's humour on the :( wane...

362254 2005-06-11 06:11:00 I'm not sure what is meant nowadays by boat shoes, but I bought a pair of that name in 1953 to wear on a sailing holiday on the Norfolk Broads.

They had white leather uppers (what else, all shoes and boots were made of leather then), and the soles were made from tightly coiled cordage.

In travelling to Norwich on my motorbike all my gear got wet, so the boat shoes were put out to dry on the boats cabin roof. Unfortunately, in a bit of tomfoolery going on, they were knocked overboard and sank, so I never did get around to wearing them in earnest. :)

362255 2005-06-11 06:22:00 I'm not sure what is meant nowadays by boat shoes, E|im posted a link to a pic of "today's" boat shoes.

I quite like them myself, but only those Timberlands ones. They are really smart for casual wear and suit just about everyone. Pity I can't convince The Boss that though.

362256 2005-06-11 09:30:00 I'm not sure what boat shoes are, but if they've been around for 30 years there can't be too much wrong with them.
What annoys me are (1) baseball caps worn backwards, and, (2) Tee shirts advertising something or other. One exception. PC World tee shirts.
I know I'm old fashioned but I believe if you're "going into town" you wear a suit and a tie.

362257 2005-06-11 10:28:00 those shoes should be banished into the vilest pits of hades for all eternity, Some of my worst childhood memories are of those horrible shoes and the incredibly sore feet that resulted, no matter how much you 'wore them in'.

Please someone ban them now before another generation is forced to suffer the fashion crime of the century that is.... Boat shoes....

362258 2005-06-11 11:39:00 I think you should wear whatever you have a liking for and whatever you find comfortable. All fashion looks completely stupid once its "out of fashion", so wear what you like.
I hate:
That silly tiny piece of hair some men are allowing to sprout just under their mouth. Shaved heads on men (You'll go bald so why hasten it?)
90% of womens "fashion".
Those irritating stupid english women that go around hassling other people on TV about their clothes - they obviously haven't looked in the mirror in ages.
