657881 2008-04-10 23:59:00 Hey,

I've installed Symantec Antivirus 2006 on a bunch of computers. Legally since this is a business.

When users are using the computers I do not want them to have admin access, so they just log on with a Limited account. This means that LiveUpdate does not want to run unless I go onto every computer and log in as admin and run it myself (VERY time consuming).

I've tried searching for a solution but with no luck.

I've also tried setting a Scheduled Task to run the file that brings up the LiveUpdate screen. I set it up so that it runs under admin privileges and to start at user log-on. But now whenever I log on the task only seems to run in the background and not actually show me the screen that I would need to see in order to do the updates. Its hidden or something and doesn't autoupdate.

I cannot seem to find the file that would run autoupdate on its own.

Thanks for any help,

Gregor

657883 2008-04-11 00:34:00 Yeah there is a server that does that but this set of computers is not on the same domain as the rest of them so cannot use the server...

I've also tried creating a batch file that runs the 'runas' command but cannot automate password input. Would need a 3rd party tool.

657884 2008-04-11 02:14:00 Then you need a client/server version. All updates rolled out by the server. Theres your answer from Pctek - you need the client/server, the standard home user version doesn't have that function as they are designed to be on single PC's.

If you run a network that gets updates from the server, you need to have the client package to match, then you can select how to do the updates and have the PC still in Limited account.

I've just been to a customers place that has the reverse - They have a client version thats looking for the work server, but at home it stops every thing as it cant find it. I cant change the settings as like you the live update wont work - the damn thing is password protected by some clown that forgot the password so I cant change the settings.

657885 2008-04-11 05:40:00 I see, ah well. The live update does work with the admin account.

I might just download some software that will let me do 'runas' automatically when computer logs into windows, that will let limited account do updates too.

Thanks for your help...

657886 2008-04-11 06:00:00 Norton is a disaster!
You will have to remove it (may have to download a tool from Norton to do it if it refuses to uninstall)

There are several free anti virus available plus a number of proffesional ones, all better than Norton.

Nod32, AVG, Avast etc
