| 657864 | 2008-04-10 23:00:00 | I have a Vista laptop here on which I installed an extra GB of RAM over a month ago . The owner has been complaining that since then the screen occasionally goes blank for a second or two but when the desktop returns it is exactly as before, ie no loss of data, etc . It's as though someone just turned the light on and off . According to the owner it only happens after the PC has been on a while and just lately it has been happening every 15 minutes or so but not all the time . I asked her to keep a record of when it happens but she didn't so I don't really know what she was doing at the time . This is the second time that I have had it here and it has only done it to me once and that was just before the screensaver came on . I'm now actually beginning to wonder whether that is her problem . Anyway, the PC is clean, no nasties at all, and now I'm looking for something that will give it a slightly harder workout than Avast to see if I can replicate the problem that way . Can anyone recommend something? |

Have you tried updating the display drivers? I'd also turn off the screen saver, and see if she keeps having the same problem. Sounds to me like the screen saver is coming on, and something is flicking it off straight away. You've probably ruled that out though... ? |

| 657869 | 2008-04-11 02:43:00 | "Orthos" has been running for a couple of hours with no problems whatsoever and I still haven't seen the screen go blank . The laptop is running nice and cool so I don't think it is an overheating issue . I'm becoming more and more convinced that it is a PEBCAK issue . Anyway, the screensaver and power management have been turned off completely so we shall just have to see how things go . Thanks for tips guys . |

I had this problem on a old PC running Vista, it was the nvidia drivers, so i updated, and it didn't have anymore problems. To check this, type in event viewer in your search box in the start menu and click it. Check for errors in custom view and applications and services. Make sure all your drivers are up to date. | SPARTAN 860 (2618) | ||

Um yes it does blank the screeen before the pop up comes up. Had a laptop the other day that seemed to get stuck on the blank screen longer than any other Vista machine I've seen. |
