| 364386 | 2005-06-16 09:44:00 | Random questions . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . issues been brought to my attentions has caused some questions to rise . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . When being assesed for a pass / fail practical grade in any job - apprenticship, training etc . Are your associates or assesors alowed to recomend anything? or is this pushing boundaries? you do this . . . . . . etc And with my hearing is this a reason not to pass? this is discrimination isnt it? they are not able to say that? How much advice can they give before it steps over the mark??????? support or otherwise? what is professional or not? is there guidelines to this on the net? :@@: beetle |

| 364387 | 2005-06-16 11:25:00 | I was recently the assesor for the apprentice at my work. The assesment was a practical one, which I gave him ample time to read the instructions and ask any questions before I started the stopwatch, however no help was given or would have been given if asked, The assesor job is to see wether the apprentice followed the instructions layed out in the job sheet eg. health and safety requirements met, house keeping rules met, and correct time used as allocated, After practical assesment job was sent to outside assesors for marking. Any help given would mean to me as a fail. The assesor is only there to over see it.Think of it as going for a driving test! |

I would think that for some jobs the state of your hearing would have little or no relevence. What kind of job are you looking at? |

For practical assessments you would not have that much leeway . I don't know how bad your hearing is, but any good assessor should find out from you well before the assessment if there are any issues or 'disabilities' that may interfere with the assessment . They can then remedy this . Guidelines I have not seen, but there are some good courses that can be done . I assume that NZQA would have prescriptions for them which would give some indication what is acceptable . HTH Sookie |
