364084 2005-06-15 23:07:00 And how come the writer with the silly picture under his name has been a member since 2002 when the rest of us have only joined in Dec.,2004?

Because life isn't fair Jack.

364085 2005-06-15 23:13:00 And why do people with nothing to say have to have a web page anyway?
Just found this ( . pcworld . co . nz/search . php?searchid=105408" target="_blank">pressf1 . pcworld . co . nz) website, plenty of links entirely dedicated to someone with nothing to say :D

364087 2005-06-16 01:22:00 There seems to be a prevalent idea that computers are useful for teaching . Attempts usually involve distracting moving backgrounds and flashing lights and bells .

The technical toys which produce the presentation are fun to play with . They are such fun that the content becomes the least important part .

Computer makeup for print publications has gone through similar nonsenses, too . "Graphic designers" given techno toys have gone mad and delighted in producing magazines with totally unreadable magazine pages . They have even been given "awards" for such efforts . Wired magazine was a prime example .

"Web designers" are repeating all the stupidest things perpetrated by the print ones . Dark blue backgrounds with black text, bright yellow backgrounds with white text . . . but you can make it flash on a screen . That must be better . :groan:

:angry :badpc:

364088 2005-06-16 10:21:00 Exactly! Just because you can make a guide dog do back-flips doesnt mean that its going to do its job of guiding people better. Same said for flashy websites. Chilling_Silence (9)
364089 2005-06-16 12:10:00 Some designers will say "you shouldnt have that black background with white text, or big(file size) intro page."

The person paying the bill says "If you wont do it can you give me the number of someone who will"

Web and graphic designers do have alot of input into the total look and feel of the publication, but if the person paying the bill dosent like it, what do you do??? :help:

364090 2005-06-16 20:13:00 Heh, thats true . I had one business who wanted me to rebuilt their index page, as they wen't getting any hits . So I did and in the process changed their logo to one that included their keywords .

They made a fuss over it and I said I am doing my job and wait a month before seeing what happens . Sure enough the site moved higher up google with every google dance . They stopped complaining when they reached the top 5 places for their keywords .

Back on the topic, I suspect the winner of 3rd place senior used a template for his html pages . How bad is that? All he did was cut, paste, and format content .

maybe an ISP could run a competition for students on webpage design, they would be the obvious sponsors of a challange like that .

Despite my rant about it, I have some students who are keen as well.
