657958 2008-04-11 11:57:00 Well that would be my problem then.

Talked to Bletch in Chat F1, he suggested doing a repair on the non-booting install. Will try that tomorrow.

657960 2008-04-12 03:16:00 Ok, well I've managed to wreck both installs now and none of them will boot!

I went to repair the install on G: using the XP disk but when I came to select which to repair, it found installs on C: and D:. None on G:. I thought that the install was on G:.

I figured that I could be wrong and I knew it wasn't on C:, so I did a repair on D:. I left it going and when I came back it had booted into my C: install. I then restarted to try and boot into the one I as having trouble with in the beginning, but now it won't boot at all.

It gets to the stage just after looking for cd's to boot from, then just sits there.

I tried repairing the install again, but now it won't give me the option to repair, only to do a fresh install.

Help!?

657961 2008-04-12 03:34:00 Well reformat both of then. With both connected, then reinstall Windows

Not much else you can do. Besides putting her hdd back into her case. And trying to do a repair on her hdd

657962 2008-04-12 03:56:00 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Matt - XP" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Sarz - XP" /fastdetect

rdisk(0) = C
rdisk(1) = D
Providing C has not been partitioned
For there to be a G you would need more rdisk's or each rdisk to have mutiple partitions.

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)
By default this should be your C drive.

What positions are your drives in BIOS?
Are they ATA or SATA or a Mix. If a Mix then ATA take priority in the boot order unless changed in BIOS.

If it is not accessible you might be able to edit the boot.ini with the app from here.
www.bootdisk.com

Also try disconnecting CD-Rom and any drives not associated with the problem just work with the ones your trying to access until boot.ini works for you.

657963 2008-04-12 04:01:00 Windows does not like other OS's even if it is (or was) one of it's own.Get a linux
live cd like Knoppix or any other distro to look at yr disks and see if you have anything salvageable.Even linux tho will have problems with explaining things to
yr wife.

657965 2008-04-12 04:14:00 Ok, I disconnected my wifes HDD and reinstalled Windows on my HDD.

First part of setup went fine, 2nd part not so good.

It gets to 'installing devices' and asks me f I want to install the driver for 'WDM crossbar' which is a graphics driver for the video input / output of my graphics card.

I clicked yes, and it restarted and went through the 2nd part from the start and asked me again about the driver, this time I clicked no. It restarted and went back to the start.....again. :(

edit: I changed it, I did say no the 2nd time. My bad.
