| 657913 | 2008-04-11 09:42:00 | We have alot of heat generating off all the equipment, the server room itself is not big at all, maybe 8ft squared, but it is almost airtight in there. Boss just didnt want to spend more on air con/flow systems because it cost too much, but if we lost our equipment due to heating, even for 24 hours could prove very costly. |

I grew up believing HDDs operating far below or above their 'optimal' rated temperatures have lower reliability .: often lead to degraded performance. They do have moving bits in them that expand/contract, even if ever so slightly, afterall. | 657915 | 2008-04-11 10:47:00 | • Contrary to previously reported results, we found very little correlation between failure rates and either elevated temperature or activity levels. 209.85.173.104 their testing is a little flawed. they are measureing HD temp not ambiant temp. the hottest is 50 degrees which most home pc HD's easly get. their meaurement are more alained to what an aircon sever room would be. ie the temp range they are measureing is to low, thay have blantantly ignored the high temps ! |
