2005-06-14 10:38:00 | i havn't bought/sold anything but i have been keeping my eye on some items. i can't get over the amount of people who are asking for more than retail price on 2nd hand goods. | tweak'e (69) | |
2005-06-14 10:52:00 | Changing the subject slightly, I advertised in the T&E for a legit winxp cd. I had countless calls offering me pirated. I eventually bought 2 discs for $100 ea from a bloke in Whangerei (I think thats how you spell it). I'm sure Billy could catch a few just from doing that. As they said in hill st blues. Lets be careful out there

2005-06-14 12:20:00 | ...Anyone get ripped off for that matter? My flatmate was ripped off in a way he was bidding on an auction and paid twice the QUOTED rrp. It was a mass produced product too, with several listings at the time which were and sold for below the rrp :/.

He wasn't ripped off, your flatmate was living up to the reasons why TardMe is known by that name. |

2005-06-14 13:15:00 | I used Trademe to get some old games (Xwing 95, Tie fighter 95, Star Trek Generations, C&C Red Alert: Counterstrike) which I havent been able to find in stores for over seven years and at dirt cheap prices compared to what it cost back then :D I bought a copy of Wing Commander 2 a while back. Some of the old games are great, even if you aren't playing it for the graphics, but the storyline. My flatmate was ripped off in a way he was bidding on an auction and paid twice the QUOTED rrp. It was a mass produced product too, with several listings at the time which were and sold for below the rrp :/. Happens all the time. Maybe not twice as much, but I sold a second-hand CPU cooler for the same price of what it was going for new on Ascent. Probably only worth half that. $1 reserve auctions make the tards go crazy. :D Have had some good deals in the past. Like a brand new P4 CPU for $50 less than the lowest price on PriceSpy. When it arrived it was unopened and in good condition. So you can get some good stuff.

2005-06-14 21:09:00 | There are some great deals, and there are some great rip-offs. My better deals... a legit Win 98 (first edition) brand new (still in box with plastic wrapping) for $35 with product key. Person was selling it as Win 98SE and discovered after I bought it (for $45) that it was first edition so knocked $10 off the price I managed to sell GTA collectors edition for $10 more than I bought it from Cash Converters 3+ years earlier I would advise, don't buy second hand RAM... its a complete rip most of those prices. Example... PC100 or PC133 RAM sells for approx $30+ per stick (64MB) secondhand, I can get second hand 128MB for $20 per stick, and I think the price is $40-60 new. By the way, I know where one can get McAfees 2004 cheap ;)

2005-06-14 21:29:00 | Trade and Exchange is not dead. I think sometimes it is better selling stuff there. TM is both good and bad. Its good for the odd emergency like I needed an ISA sound card recently. Dirt cheap of course. Got a car for $800. Nothing wrong with it except it had paint leprosy. One paint job later.... However TM management annoys me. They make out on TV they are the concerned company monitoring whats going on but they don't. The recent comment on Fair Go about underage traders recently - I watched them quickly disable a couple I know - who came back 10 mins later with a new username and an adjusted date of birth. And as for rip-offs, you're on your own if it happens. And all those 39-in-1 aracde machines on there. Mame cabinet sellers are quickly removed but the 39-in-1s etc are the same thing but its done by a dodgy crowd in Taiwan, with hardware but its still pirated ROMS. Not to mention a cetian trader in them wanting $1500 or so for them. Theres also an immense trade in pirate DVD movies as a friend of mine discovered. Not home jobs, fairly professional but he was rather outraged. TM would not accept his complaint and the trader continues to rack up 1000s of trades still.

2005-06-14 22:31:00 | hubby and i have sold a cellphone and a car, as well as numerous other items. I've used it quite a bit though not as much lately. My only concern is that there seem to be a lot of "clueless" buyers on the site, who don't really know how it all works - they dont bother to read the help either.
