658225 2008-04-12 11:28:00 Hi

I am looking too. I was thinking along the lines of a core duo 2 E6550 with an Asus P5k SE motherboard and 2 to 4 gigs of ram. A work through pricespy suggests this would come to about $400 to $500. good luck

658226 2008-04-12 21:19:00 Wow, how can you use such a slow system? and I thought my P1 133MHz was slow :D

What do you plan on doing with the PC?

You will need new CPU, Mobo, RAM, GFX Card as APG is soon to be like the dinosaurs and maybe even PSU as you have not specified what the PSU is. (really a whole new system)

The case you can re use though.

658228 2008-04-13 03:26:00 Can I recommend an Intel Q9300 (www.playtech.co.nz). Also quad core runs at 2.5GHz, 1333MHz FSB.
Should be faster then the Q6600 costs approx $50 more.

In your pic's you appear to have heaps of HDD's are these generally SATA or IDE?

658229 2008-04-13 04:05:00 I would suggest

1. Gigabyte P35-DS3L $165 incl (very solid fast board why pay more for a mobo, also its a nice overclocker if you choose)

2. Quad 9300, around $400incl(since you have stated video editing, go quad), or you could easily get away with a E4500 $175 and OC it to 3gig+ as I notice you OC your current rig.

3. 9600GT $270incl
Do youself a BIG favour and grab a decent Video card, I guess if you ONLY video editing then buy the nasty Radeon 9550.

658233 2008-04-14 10:16:00 Just the topic I needed to find, currently looking out a new board for building a system, only one prob,..which one. I looked at the Asus site for socket 775 and they had like 55boards for that one cpu type. So I guess maybe its easier to ask which chipset should I choose? Does a intel chipset go better with an intel CPU or nvidia or VIA or whoever? kewefella (2092)
