On the 31st March 2008 about 80 unwanted folders appeared in "My Documents" folder within 3 minutes.
They all seem to have associations with Device Manager.
I don't know how and why this happened.
The only unusual thing I did around that time was installing a Vimicro USB PC Webcam.

Below are the names of the first and last 10 folders. There are many in between.

ACPI Fixed Feature Button
ACPI Power Button
ACPI Uniprocessor PC
Audio Codecs
Broadcom 440x 10 100 Integre...
BtCap,WDM Audio Capture
BtCap, WDM Video Capture
BtXBar, WDM Crossbar
CD-ROM Drive
Communications Port

USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub#1
USB Root Hub#2
USB Root Hub#3
Video Codecs
Volume Manager
WAN Miniport (IP)
WAN Miniport (L2TP)
WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
WAN Miniport (PPTP)

Can someone please tell me where these folders belong.
Is it OK to just move them back?

Thank you,
Antonia

658074 2008-04-11 21:49:00 I would say they are part of your webcam. Those folders are in the right place, but I think they should of been in a folder called Vimicro in My Documents. I would leave them as they are or else your webcam might not work.

658075 2008-04-11 22:41:00 Hi Trev

I have assembled the folders into a new folder "Vimicro" in My Documents.
Much tidier and the Webcam still works.

Thank you so much for your help,
Antonia

658076 2008-04-11 22:59:00 Sloppy programing? or did someone not select defaults at the "install shield" Blade2 (6577)
658077 2008-04-12 02:38:00 As alluded to by Blade2, many pc users might find files, short cuts, photo's, and some programs, etc, that were inadvertently stored or dumped in My Documents. I certainly have from younger family members... kahawai chaser (3545)
658078 2008-04-12 05:17:00 Sloppy programmer?

Not really. The webcam came with an installation CD.Did all the work for me. Well, so I thought.

But there is always Press F1 to help sort things out.
Thanks again Trev.

658079 2008-04-14 09:49:00 Not referring to your programming, I meant the software that came with it. M$oft are renowned for sloppy programming, Just look at half the bloat-ware they put out, so not a new thing. Blade2 (6577)
