657630 2008-04-10 05:16:00 So I've bought the gear for my new rig, and the next thing is what OS to run on...
I know that XP just works, no probs with compatibility etc;
and I know that VIsta has DX10, but really, is DX10 worth downgrading to Vista for?
GeneralKanos (13592)
657631 2008-04-10 05:19:00 DX 10 is awesome, definately get vista.

P.S the only people who complain about vista are those with crap PC's, or they don't like changing, or they have xp only apps.
The last reason is the only good reason :)

657632 2008-04-10 06:46:00 Ignore Spartans's BS. Use XP for a more trouble-free experience. No need for DX now anyway. Greg (193)
657633 2008-04-10 06:49:00 At this stage I would only go for Vista if you want to play games that have been built to only run on Vista.

Though it means rewarding MS for bull**** tactics.

God damn they suck.

657634 2008-04-10 06:55:00 Ya, I agree.
My mate keeps telling me that I need to go to Vista "to experience the DX10 experience"...

I don't really care for Antialiasing and antistropic filtering etc as I'm only really playing RTS games like SupCom and CnC3.

I'd much rather have a higher frame rate and res than super quality images.

657635 2008-04-10 07:00:00 They why get a DX 10 card if you're staying on DX 9? I mean, that's a waste of money. Alot of future games are going to be dx 10 only, so if you stay with dx 9, its your choice, but personally, Im going for the better graphics. Do you acually expect a 8800GT to lag at ANYTHING? (well except Crysis DX 10 and other DX 10 games). You might as well get 7900GX2 in sli if you're sticking with dx 9.

crysis-online.com

You know that your card can handle super high quality + high res + high fps

657636 2008-04-10 07:24:00 You have a lot of HDD space.. if you can afford to buy both OS's then why not? And chuck Ubuntu on too while you're at it and witness the awesomeness of CompizFusion

Just for a laugh, you could always put MSDOS on it too :D

Seriously though, I'd personally stick with XP for a gaming rig. At all the LANs and Uni and things its always the Vista users that have issues :(

657637 2008-04-10 07:31:00 Well, Vista is newer, and in the days of XP RTM, things really sucked for XP. But most of the bugs are gone in SP1. I bet university does not have SP1. SPARTAN 860 (2618)
657638 2008-04-10 07:32:00 Your forgetting Leopard, Chill.
Never forget the mac...
GeneralKanos (13592)
657639 2008-04-10 07:34:00 try adding mac to non apple made computer and KABOOM! Problems problems problems. And don't forget mac's horrible gaming performance. SPARTAN 860 (2618)
