364286 2005-06-15 22:32:00 Does anyone know of one which can be connected to a PC, so I can drag whatever file I have recorded from the HD to my PC via my network?

For editing purposes, etc... rather not have to burn it, rip the disc into my PC and edit from there.

Cheers,

Lo.

364287 2005-06-15 22:34:00 I thought you were able to edit using the HD/DVD recorder? (for editing out ads etc.)

364288 2005-06-15 22:45:00 Yeah? I didn't know that... If that's the case I might have to get one! Any pointers on which one I should purchase...?

364289 2005-06-16 02:27:00 The Feb/March edition of FFWD (which I receive with PC World) has an article on this very topic. See if you can find it Lo. Otherwise I can post you a copy.

The only DMR (Digital Media Recorder) which is network ready is the $3500 Panasonic E500HGNS apparently.

But the article also suggests waiting 12 months as new machines come available.

And yes, you can edit on a DMR before burning but each machine has its own quirks as to how simple this is.

These were reduced heavily a few weeks back due to new 80Gb models coming in to $2000 in most places .

The Panasonic DMR E500H which was $3 . 5k can be had for $2k or less and it has a 400GB hard drive and is network ready .

I got one for better than 2K and got 6 ram discs included in the deal as well .
I am in the process of running a Lan cable out to the lounge as we speak to enable programs to be moved back to the pc .
Editing can be done on the harddrive, including chapter creation, advert removal, naming files etc .

It takes about 15 seconds to fast forward thru the 4 1/2 minutes of ads at each adbreak :D

Want to know more PM me or post here

364292 2005-06-21 06:46:00 I brought a Panasonic E500HGNS and have found it easy to use. Would like to know about the network side but the manaul only gives you the address of Panasonic Japans website, great if you can read Japanese.

Has anyone networked theirs yet? And what can you do via the network connection?
