| 659368 | 2008-04-16 00:53:00 | just toying with the idea of introducing wireless into our home network (10/100)???? currently adsl comes into a 4 port router, then out to a switch (print server attached) then out to our pc's/laptops, all situated nicely in a closet so the wife doesnt axe me too much about it am wondering if just adding an wireless AP would suffice???? at the router level or switch level???? we live in a fairly normal two level house with bedrooms upstairs which i would think 1 ap would cover but getting the signal downstair???? i have tentaly identified a posible route which would leave the ap unit in the floor/ceiling and the antenna with a small aerial extension lead poking out of the moisture master vent lol mite work????? have thought about a new wireless router but cause its in the closet dont really see it helping the signal - i can kinda disguise the aps in the office downstair etc??? 802.11g or shell out for 802.11N stick to which names??? cheers for any info, ty in advance, all the best |

| 659369 | 2008-04-16 01:03:00 | I use one of these (pcengines.ch) ($137 USD) with one of these (pcengines.ch)($42 USD). OS is pfSense embedded (http://pfsense.org/). The same card without 802.11a/turbo-a is $21 USD. Shipping from Switzerland took around a week. This solution is enterprise-grade wireless hardware, and I have to say the best AP solution I've ever seen :thumbs:. My house is a two storey brick box - coverage is at least 80% signal quality throughout the house (both levels), and pretty good coverage over most of a rather large garden too, through several walls. |

| 659371 | 2008-04-16 04:52:00 | I have one of these (pcengines.ch) on order, but no stock is due until 30th April - so at the moment it's running minus a case. | Erayd (23) | ||
