| 658877 | 2008-04-15 01:48:00 | Hi all. I was just wondering if theres any major difference between a full and a mid size case... apart from physical size, and bays available. Is cooling adversely affected? Just thinking of putting together a rig, and would prefer something smaller, so it takes up less space, and costs less too. Just wanted your guys opinions. |

Good: Easier to cool Bad: Less space for the bigger components e.g. it is common to lose the HDD component bay when installing larger graphics cards. But normally it just removes access to one slot so you might want to check that out. |

Cooling is not affected either way in the event the PC has cable ties and fans and well put together. The case you buy will be affected by internal hardware you wish to install and also the power supply as to what you can put in the case along with the motherboard.. Also how many hard drives, optical drives, SLI graphic cards, sound card and etc you wish to install and etc. Costs less than what? |

| 658882 | 2008-04-15 06:51:00 | I mean a mid tower, as opposed to a full tower. A full tower weighs in starting around $300, and an ok mid starts at half that. I'm not sure if I will SLi, but I'm getting a compatible board, so I'd prefer not to close that door. The case I'd think of getting is something like this. (www.ascent.co.nz) It's classic, and not too expensive. I just don't want to find that it cuts off my options too much on being able to expand. Also, with 8800GT's in SLi how big a PSU do you think I'm looking at? I've got a 650W on the list now, but might have to go bigger. Or maybe I'll go for one 9xxx. Who knows... anyway, the actual computer is probably a little way off, I'm just investigating atm. |

Hi, I love Lian Li cases, wish I could afford the V2000A (ascent.co.nz), however what you haver to remember is a good cases can last many upgrades. The unit you linked is IMHO too small, the big cards are 12" or is it 9", anyway, you wont fit one of those in that case.I have the cheap Lian Li version.....a silverstone TJ06, which isnt a bad, mid chamber needs extra cooling for the big cards if exhausting inside the chamber, however ascent doesnt have them listed anymore...cost me $220 incl GST. The Antec 900 is a good case or the Cm690?.....Really, dont be a miser on the case, chances are you will keep it past this and the next upgrade. PS: TJ07 is very popular although twice your budget! |

| 658884 | 2008-04-15 07:34:00 | You're right... that's expensive. But I don't have a set budget sorted out yet. Here's what I've got so far anyway. CPU-- E8200 2.66Ghz 1300Mhz--$305.10 www.ascent.co.nz MoBo-- Asus P5K/EPU Motherboard-- $199.59 www.ascent.co.nz PSU-- Thermaltake 650W SLI--- $220.61 www.ascent.co.nz HDD-- WD Caviar 750GB SATA-- $247.89 www.ascent.co.nz RAM-- Kingston 1x1GB-- $53.33 X2 www.ascent.co.nz GFX-- Asus EN8800GT 512MB-- $381.78 www.ascent.co.nz Case-- Silverstone Tj09B-- $397.24 www.ascent.co.nz $$$ Total $$$ $1815.59 May change the WD for a Seagate, and the GFX is the cheapest 8800GT that asus make, so not sure about that. May add another, but $$$ stacking up quickly. Also, haven't put a screen down yet, so that's more money down the drain. Plus a nice mouse and keyboard. I tried looking at other retailers as well, but so little price difference that it's not really worth it. Can't wait to be ripped apart for this^. :) |

Is the case you have possibly decided on being "small"? I would suggest Seagate drives rather than Western digital. |

| 658886 | 2008-04-15 08:22:00 | ****, lost what I had just typed!!!.......laptop pad %^$@@$%#@ Anyway I'll start again, Seagate instead of WD unless a Raptor. The mobo has only 1 IDE header, not 2!, the power connector is in a **** position, right beside the PCIe slot meaning cabling issues. PSU no longer @ available?, try the Silverstone Decathlon instead for $17 more (modular & 54a 12v rail) I have my eye on that video card also! If going Dual Core, E8400 a better chip! VERY nice case........ Ummm, kingston...........$80 more for Dominator!!! So, do we save $100, or get a bit more quality products?......I know what I'd do! |
