658802 2008-04-14 21:49:00 Hi Guys
My aetup is a Dell dimesion 2400 with two IDE HD running fully updated XP home.
Got brave a couple of days ago and installed Ubuntu on the second drive.
I can see the Windows HD in Ubuntu but cannot see the Ubuntu drive in Windows Explorer. Windows Device Manager shows both drives with no problems, just not visible in Explorer.
Any help greatly appreciated

658803 2008-04-14 23:27:00 Maybe windows can't see the file format that Ubuntu writes to? I'm pretty sure Ubuntu can read the other way round though.

If you want to share files between the two OS', you should create a share partition. Make it FAT32. Otherwise, what do you want to see Ubuntu for?

[EDIT] I just read that the latest distro of Ubuntu both reads and writes in NTFS, so it doesn't have to be FAT32.

With this application Windows can read and write ext 2 and 3 data partitions.
@stock Windows can't read and write the Linux partitions, but Linux can read and write NTFS without an application.

658806 2008-04-15 06:53:00 Have you entered all your IP settings? I had Ubuntu for a while, but my comp was old, and it was just for fun, so never really got used to it. But GL.

And re: replies, that's what we're here for.

658808 2008-04-15 07:06:00 Are you using an external ADSL modem? Is it set to DHCP or are you assigning internal IPs? Did you put in the ADSL modem's IP as the gateway? Jen (38)
658809 2008-04-15 21:16:00 Not sure how to get external ADSL modems IP address?

Followed the help and got IP addresses using IPconfig in windows.(Help didnt tell me what to do with them. Just said I would need them???):groan:
Floundered around untill I found the network icon. It showed wired connection
Selected manual configuration.
Box showed
"Wired connection" with -
"Modem connection" with -
Selected "wired Connection" and went to properties.
This had a tick in "enable Roaming" mode
Unticked the box and entered IP addresses from above.
Went back to first box and changed the - to a tick.
Firefox was unable to display pages.:horrified
