658607 2008-04-14 06:06:00 Audacity is running well . . . encodes/decodes MP3s, RAW and WMA . . etc . . .

So now, as I followed the instructions Audacity told me to get LAME and put it someplace where I could find it easily enough . . and offered the advice of putting it on the desktop in a dedicated folder .

Did all that .

Like I said, Audacity does all I can ask it to do . . . so do I need to leave LAME on the desktop forever?

Once it's used or found by Audacity, can I then delete it or move it to a less conspicuous place . . . like the Recycle bin? :stare:

658608 2008-04-14 06:09:00 yes, it should be installed to the system folder! SolMiester (139)

658610 2008-04-14 07:01:00 windows because it is an installed codex! SolMiester (139)
658611 2008-04-14 07:06:00 Can you illuminate a little?

Dark here where I am right now.

658612 2008-04-14 07:10:00 If concerned wether or not to delete the desktop file, simply delete to recycle bin. Test the codex still works.

For the actually file location, I'm not sure, probably system32, any reason you wish to know?

658613 2008-04-14 07:54:00 You don't need anything on your desktop. Feel free to remove the shortcut. Applications will never depend on desktop shortcuts to find each other - they either use a fixed location or look it up, an option in their configuration or in the registry. TGoddard (7263)

Audacity needs the lame_enc.dll which can be anywhere so long as Audacity has its location in Preferences. You could use the Audacity Plug-ins Folder.

I understand that all . . . but if Audacity already used the LAME part and originally found it on the desktop, I just bet it cannot find it again if I move it . . right?

What I wanted to know is if Audacity now has the LAME installed and doesn't need the . dll files that are on the desktop . . . or does Audacity needs to access that particular LAME file every time it needs to encode/decode?

I was hoping here that Audacity only needed it once for all time .

658616 2008-04-14 20:09:00 As you will be using this .dll file directly for encoding it is recommended to save it into your Audacity installation folder.
