366931 2005-06-25 05:33:00 Am having a few problems with my dear old Philips Savvy cellphone - had it since September 2000. It might just be old age (the phone and me!) or possibly cold temperatures???...but the reception keeps flicking in and out. We live about 2 kms in a straight line from the nearest transmission relay thingy - can see it from where I'm sitting actually. I really don't want to have to get another phone. Holds the charge for nearly 6 days - moderate use texting mainly. Keypads still OK, volume brilliant. Any ideas why the reception disappears??? Been having really really cold temperatures lately with snow clouds down low. The weather here does affect our TV reception so wondering if same goes for our cellphone? I live in Otematata. Thanks. katharinem (3459)
366932 2005-06-25 05:35:00 Sorry - thread topic bit misleading - had originally intended asking for advice on new cellphone then thought of asking for help first. :( katharinem (3459)
366933 2005-06-25 05:47:00 Don't assume that it cannot be the cell site thats faulty.
Try the phone at another location (that uses a different cell site) or another phone at that location

Had a problem here a year back, poor reception. Complained to Vodafone, they found it was the local cell site. Gave me an $80 credit and called in to talk to me and see if all was OK after the repair.

Remember that Vodafone and Telecom use entirely different locations for cell sites, no easy way of telling by looking if its one that serves you or not.

Except when they are side by side as they are here

366936 2005-06-26 01:32:00 Thanks for replies and will contact other vodafone users in the area. Kumarguy - are you in the Otematata area or are the "cell sites" next to each other in the area where you live. Freezing cold and snow again last night but can't imagine that that would have an effect on transmission. Reception has been on and off this morning as well - phone fully charged. katharinem (3459)
366937 2005-06-26 21:39:00 sometimes the weather can effect your receiption.

have you tried to reset the phone? as in take the battery out for a bit, then turn it back on. My old nokia used to do strange this if it was turned on for a while, a simple reset and it was all good.

try it in another location as mentioned in another post or bring it in the shop and get them to test it out, ask how much it will cost your before you let them have a look at it, it may not be worth it.

366938 2005-06-28 09:18:00 It seems to be working fine now - in two locations. Have had no response from Vodafone. Will save me a 200 km trip to town and back anyway as I'll keep this cellphone for as long as it keeps going. Thanks for your help! Kate. katharinem (3459)
