2005-06-20 12:26:00 | A few days after I received my new hard drive from Super Cheap Computers Ltd, the drive developed a serious fault. After filling out the web-based request to receive a Returns Authorisation Number and getting no response, I tried emailing, phoning, and adding comments to my order at the online store. I eventually made an order for another hard drive, commenting that my payment would be the faulty one. This actually worked :illogical - they cancelled the order and gave me an RA#. Finally, success! I thought. I sent the hard drive back with a tracking number. As I write this, it has been 28 days since they received the hard drive, 13 days since I sent a letter requesting a resolution, and I have heard nothing from them. If I call them I can only get to their message centre which is "full". I don't live in Auckland so can't visit their store. I have now been without a working computer for over a month as a result. This response, to a serious fault, well within the warranty period, is appalling :horrified. I thought you guys might like to know that Super Cheap has great prices, but super slack service.

2005-06-20 22:07:00 | I had a friend who went and ordered some comp. stuff over the net from supercheep cheep cheep after I told him to go to Ascent. Comp Stuff took nearly a week to arrive at Napier. I ordered a Geforce 6800 LE Graphics card from Ascent at about 9:00am last Tuesday had an email an hour later that it is on its way recieved it 10:00am the next day. Trevor :)

2005-06-21 01:16:00 | Well, I have only had one experience with SuperCheap and they were fine. At the same time I had major problems with another supplier I located through pricespy, and I eventually cancelled that order after being mucked around for ages. As a result of that experience I decided (like ninja) to only shop at Ascent, even though they charge a bit more sometimes. I figure it is better to pay the extra few dollars and have peace of mind and good service. I gave them the other supplier's cancelled order (that supplier insisted no-one in the country had what I wanted) and it arrived the following day. I have never had anything except great service from Ascent, but I tried to get something cheaper than the Ascent price and as a result got an inferior service (or non-service) and no product. And the other supplier had charged my credit card when I put in the order and received the benefit of my money for a month before I got it back... Maybe they are in the business of earning interest on customer's money rather than supplying computer gear? John

2005-06-21 05:42:00 | I have a colleague who ordered and paid for two hard drives from supercheap (heh... I work at a large IT firm, it would have been cheaper and faster to get the drives through our parts department at work, but I digress) and they never arrived. After a lot of emails, phonecalls etc and getting no response, he has formally taken them to the disputes tribunal as recommended by the commerce commission. I'd suggest you do the same, it only costs what $30?

2005-06-21 06:36:00 | I've ordered from them 16 times in the last year, and not once has it gone bad. On one occasion a piece of SD-RAM developed a fault, but it was replaced eventually. Sure, it took two weeks, and I had very little communication from them in the mean time, but it happened.

2005-06-21 12:06:00 | Perhaps somebody should email them (put the email in this thread) and actually mention this thread to them. Maybe they're simply un-aware of how the public sees them (Unlikely). Ive had numerous good experiences with them. The way they do some of their dealings had me a little suspicious of a tax scam.... they were nice and friendly when in their shop, well-mannered etc. The shop was kinda cramped though, and they could sometimes take a while to get to you (Which Ive come to expect though, shopping in-person at QMB etc). Never had a failure though which has had to go back, and Ive bought a few grands worth of stuff from them in the past year.
