Don't bother asking how to play pirated DVDs though

365274 2005-06-21 06:38:00 You are better off looking at the Panasonic DMR-E500HGNS. It has a 400GB Hard Disk and is networkable. You should be able to get one for about $2000, Harvey Norman and Smiths City have had them for that price.

www.panasonic.co.nz

Not sure if you can transfer off the Hard Disk via the Network, the manual does not go into much detail. It just gives you an address to the Panasonic Japan website, so if you can read Japanese it might help you.

Better off? $1100 more! Sure it's a better unit, but that's a big price jump.

365276 2005-06-21 11:56:00 For that sorta price I'd rather just by 9x 120GB HDD's and that'd keep me going for a while :) Chilling_Silence (9)
365277 2005-06-23 06:41:00 Definately networkable as that is what I have just done to mine.

What can I now achieve?

Moving video and pictures to and from the Panasonic DVD recorder over the LAN to my computer(s).

The ability to burn in any format on my computers DVD writer as opposed to the RAM or -R format that the Panasonic supports.

The ability to edit recorded files with various filters, creation tools etc on the pc ( this I still have to learn some more)

and I guess the ability to fire small clips on on the interweb edited out of a recorded program or whatever.

And as you see in another thread I've even worked out how to record Teletext subtitles onto the recorded programs to keep her indoors happy.

and the best of all the ability to be able to blow away 4 1/2 minutes of adverts in about 15 seconds

The VCR is fast being consigned to a ornament although required to get the Teletext subtitles as ALL DVD recorders I have seen in the market to date filter and remove that part of the broadcasted signal.

365278 2005-06-23 15:36:00 who actually uses teletext subtitles anyway??? Tux (606)
365279 2005-06-23 16:22:00 I'd have thought that was fairly obvious.
Mainly the many viewers who have a hearing disability, of course.
Some learning English as a second language may also find them a useful aid.

Blind people, probably.

What a stupid question. :groan:

365281 2005-06-24 00:06:00 I use the teletext subtitles everyday. I am Deaf so it is essential for me to be able to understand what is happening.

You should think about other people more!

"Who uses sound anyways" is just like the question you asked! Stupid! :annoyed:
