365610 2005-07-19 06:07:00 Are we going to have another "bash Pricespy" session? Pricespy provides a service . Free . You don't have to use it . It gives the advertised prices for various parts . The lists are compiled automatically by computer . That process occasionally gets "interesting" results because there is no human intervention to spot ridiculously low prices because they aren't prices; rather a price difference between configurations . Pricespy can't recommend a shop . It can't (without risking expensive consequences) warn you off shops .

What you get from Pricespy is a guide to prices . It's up to you who you buy from . You are given the links to look at the actual pages the prices come from . It's your money . You are the one making the purchase . If you want your hand held while you do it, pay more .

No retail operation can afford great service and great prices . If your sole buying criterion is price, don't expect top class service, .

Caveat bloody emptor applies .
well said

365611 2005-07-19 06:44:00 We have Pricespy bashing sessions?

And I missed them all?

Bugger .

Oh yeah, I agree with Graham .

365612 2005-07-19 08:08:00 Well I wans't bashing them, merely making a comment relevant as this thread was about SC. Suppose they can't help the fact that SC comes up first all the time.
Maybe someone needs to do a site like Pricespy but call it ReliableSPy or GreatServiceSpy or something.

365614 2005-07-19 12:19:00 Thats an interesting page.

Ive had a workmate take back an 80GB HDD. Tried and tried, calling every day and spending his whole 30-min lunch break on hold (God bless headset phones) trying to find out what the deal was after 2 weeks of not hearing from them. About another week and a bit pass by and after a few emails and finally threats to take it to the consumer affairs (Emails submitted using their online website functions, with all needed numbers/details of the return etc) they finall sent off a small email saying the HDD was unable to be repaired in NZ and had been sent back to Malaysia for futher diagnosis and would be another week to two weeks.

He's not impressed :(

365615 2005-08-07 01:25:00 For those who have not been to Supercheap's store in Auckland,
here ( . com/albums/a50/nz_man/" target="_blank">photobucket . com) are two photos of the shop, one outside and one inside .
It is located on Pitt Street, near Karagahape Rd .
I managed to get a park on Pitt . . .

I bought a modem for my son's PC . Only $16 with GST and it works . :)

The man who served me was a polite, quiet guy . From India I think .

On my way back home to Masterton, I was clicking lots of photos and film clips . The one of the Chevy Impala was crazy . . . !  What they are made of, I am not sure . Real????!!!?? The photo is not so clear because the Chev was cruising at 125 - 130 and I was shooting through the windscreen while driving .

365618 2005-08-07 04:14:00 We have shops like that here in the US . . we call them phone booths . Is this supposed to be a biggie there? Most stores here that sell 'puter stuff are usually 1 to 2 acre sites . There are a few small shops that are just the proverbial hole in the wall, but they have the highest prices and as you NZ's say "dodgy" reputations .

I am really amazed by the lack of service you have there, and having read many if not all your stories about bad service and long . . . long . . service times, I really feel sorry for the harsh treatment youse guys get .

My heart goes out to all you with the horrible things you endure as a typical computer user . I marvel at the resoursefullness and care you give to each other in sharing and trading parts and advice . I am especially glad to see you all (with very few exceptions) pulling together to get things done . You are all very inspiring .

Thank-you for letting me look in on you all and reading about you here in this site . I am enriched .
